MANUAL

WDE INS 97 ISSUE 1

APPROVED BY T JONES
DATED: 04/06/04
amended by Heights to include setting instructions (10/01/2006)
FUNCTION:

The function of the chiller, is to maintain the temperature of the developing fluid with-in a Heights
processor. It does this by pumping cooling water from the chiller, through a cooling circuit in the
processor and back into the chiller, to be cooled again.

The processor supplies electrical power to the chiller, via three leads with orientated plugs and
sockets:-

Pump signal lead - allows the processor to switch the water pump off /on if needed.
Flow switch lead - sends a signal to the processor of no flow in the cooling circuit.
Mains power lead - supplies the chiller with 220v/240v 50/60Hz electrical power.

The refrigeration system is operated (switched on/off ) by an electronic temperature control.

There are also two safety switches which can cut the power to the electronic control, and
illuminate the system fault indicator, also switching the pump off. These are :-

A level switch in the water bath, detects low water.

A flow switch in the return tube of the cooling water, detects no flow in the cooling circuit.

INSTALLATION:
NOTE: The unit should be installed and serviced by a suitably trained person.

1. Remove chiller from its transportation packaging and check for signs of damage. If damaged,
obtain a replacement system and return damaged chiller through approved warranty return
procedure.

2. The chiller should be mounted and fixed into/onto the processer with the correct fixings.

3. Make the electrical connections to the corresponding connectors on the processor

4. Make the connections between the chiller and the processor for the cooling water (flow and
return) with the correct tubing and clips.

5. Do not switch on yet.

6. Before filling the water bath, unclip the level tube from the holder, hold the end of the tube over a
suitable container, fill the water bath with clean water, bleed level tube until all air has been
expelled, clip tube back into the holder level with the top of holder. Fill water bath to level.

7. Switch on electrical supply to the chiller, and top up water bath as necessary. The chiller will not
operate correctly, until the correct water level of a flowing circuit is reached, due to the internal
level switch.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL:
The electronic control is pre-set to the manufacturers default settings, except for the temperature
cut-out which is set to 10 deg.C
If the temperature cut-out needs to be adjusted proceed as follows:-

With the unit switched on, press the (set1) button for one(1) second, then press the half moon
program button, the cut-out setting is now displayed, you can now change the setting, press
(set1) to increase the temperature, or (set2) to decrease. To save the new setting, press the half
moon button for two (2) seconds.

Ventilation

Grills should be kept clear at all times ,with a minimum clearance around the chiller of 45mm.

Prevention of freezing / action required if freezing occurs.

It is recommended that the unit is sited in such a way as not to expose it to temperatures likely to cause
freezing. ie. Below 0° C. In the rare event of freezing up occurring, the following action is recommended:

This should be done by a competent person.

1 Wait until ambient temperature is at normal working level and not one, which would promote
freezing. ie Above 0°C.
2 Check to make sure no leaks are present, if so repair

3 The system is now ready for use..
