Homework Assignment 3 Angle Measurement, Reduction & Traverse Computation
Part A- Mark the correct answer for the following:
1. If face left zenith reading for point B measured by theodolite is 93o 21' 28" , the face right zenith reading for the same point assuming no error is:
a. 86o 38' 32" b. 93o 21' 28" c. 266o 38' 32" d. 273o 21' 28"
2. if face right horizontal reading for theodolite is 120o 25' 16" and the difference between face left and face right (FL-FR) 180o 01' 22" the face left
reading of the point is:
a. 300o 26' 38" b. 330o 30' 16". c. 209o 29' 44". d. 120o 05' 04".

Part B- Answer the following:

1. Find horizontal angle (ABC) the following observations :
Theodolite Observed point Face left Face right
B A 104°20΄32˝ 284° 20΄24˝
C 189º45΄42˝ 09º 45΄52˝

2. Compute the internal angles of traverse ABCDA , if quadrant bearings of traverse sides as follows: AB= S 5318 W, BC= S 6428 E, CD= N

3. A counter clockwise closed traverse T1-T2-T3-T4-T1 is carried out with the following measurements:-
Traverse sides: T1-T2 = 357.453 m, T2-T3 = 440.775 m, T3-T4 = 348.967 m, and T4-T1 = 367.190 m.
Interior angles: T1 = 88 14' 44'', T2 = 89 20' 47'', T3= 78 25' 31'', and T4 = 103 57' 58’’.
Forward bearing of side T1-T2 = XX 20' 00'', and coordinates of point A (3000.0, 4000.0). Compute the angular misclosure
XX=Last two digits from your AUC- ID (e.g., ID 900172567 XX=67)
- Compute allowable angular misclosure, if accuracy of measured angles is 10”
- Adjust the angles and compute the whole circle bearings for all the traverse lines.
- Determine and comment on the traverse misclosure error (Linear and relative).
- Determine adjusted coordinates of traverse points.

4. During the construction of Third Runway of Cairo International Airport, Two additional control points A&B were required to be constructed and observed using a
traverse linked to existing control points established by GPS i.e. GPS1 and GPS2 as shown in Figure. The coordinates of GPS1 and GPS2 are (2357.655 m E,
1835.522m N) & (1716.865m E, 1638.804m N) respectively. Find the angular, linear, relative closing errors also find the adjusted coordinates of points A & B (
standard deviation of observed angles 10”). ( note : Linked traverse, compute bearing for line GPS-GPS2 from given coordinates)
