ACTIVITY CARD 3A – Topics: Particulate Nature of Matter its
Classification

Matter is anything that has mass and occupies

space. Matter may either be living or nonliving. It can be
detected using your senses – sight (color, dull, shiny),
hearing (loud, soft, with echo, no sound), taste (sweet,
sour, bitter), touch (smooth, hard, soft), and smell (musky,
pungent, floral, peppermint). Matter is what the world is
made of. The materials surrounding you, the air you
breathe, the soil beneath your feet, the food you eat, the
water you drink, this book and even the stars in the
universe are forms of matter.

To start, us do ONE activity given below:

A1: Model Making: Make a model showing the arrangement of particles of solid,
liquid and gas. Use any materials available at home (ex. Seeds, pebbles, buttons,
scratch paper). Submit your output through a photo collage.

A2: Make a concept map about the states of matter, properties and changes of
matter and classification of matter. Be sure to give the descriptions of these
important concepts about matter and examples.

A3: Create a short video of you making one homogenous and one heterogenous
mixture found at home. Be sure to describe your product in relation to mixtures.

Get ready to share your ideas during our encounter time. Be sure you already have
read pages 182 -191 of your Science 8 book.
