Electronic Cigarette
Electronic Cigarette
Is an electronic device that simulates tobacco smoking. It consists of an atomizer, a power source
such as a battery, and a container such as a cartridge or tank. Instead of smoke, the user inhales
vapor.
Electronic cigarettes are known by many different names. They are sometimes called “e-
cigarettes”, “e-cigs,” “e-hookahs,” “mods,” “vape pens,” “vapes,” “tank systems,” and “electronic
nicotine delivery systems (ENDS).”
E-cigarettes produce an aerosol by heating a liquid that usually contains nicotine—the addictive
drug in regular cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products—flavorings, and other chemicals
that help to make the aerosol. Users inhale this aerosol into their lungs. Bystanders can also
breathe in this aerosol when the user exhales into the air. E-cigarettes can be used to deliver
marijuana and other drugs.
E-cigarettes have the potential to benefit adults who smoke and who are not pregnant if
used as a complete substitute for regular cigarettes and other smoked tobacco products.
Do not produce tar or carbon monoxide, two of the most harmful elements in tobacco
smoke.
The liquid and vapour contain some potentially harmful chemicals also found in cigarette
smoke, but at much lower levels in a electronic cigarette.
Can contain harmful and potentially harmful ingredients, including: ultrafine particles that
can be inhaled deep into the lungs.
Flavorants such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to serious lung disease.
Can make you and addict. So if you’ve never smoked or used other tobacco products or e-
cigarettes, don’t start.
