Recall times when you have been a manager, during those times, do you think you displayed
more manager skills or leadership skills?
I have shown stronger managerial skills because I demonstrated a particular set of skills that
helped my team succeed. In a chat with my team, for example, I deliver my points clearly and concisely
so that my personnel knows exactly what is expected of them. It is critical to listen to their constructive
opinions and concerns and help settle workplace misunderstandings. To avoid uncertainty or
misunderstanding, managers need to choose their words carefully. In addition, I set attainable goals and
devise tactics to achieve them. Managers must be able to do both jobs and strategically use the
capabilities of each person to develop a successful firm.
a. Make a list of your strengths as a leader
Self-awareness- Understanding my strengths will enable me to implement a strength-based
leadership style that highlights my ability to direct people using my capabilities. Furthermore,
understanding my personality's strong and weak components enabled me to develop a
leadership style tailored to my capabilities.
Excellent communication skills- A strong leader entails allocating responsibilities properly
and ensuring that all team members accomplish their goals and follow the company's basic
principles. Strong communication abilities enable more effective personnel management.
Furthermore, disagreements can be lessened or avoided entirely if I communicate well.
Conflict resolution skills- Conflicts can reduce productivity and create a negative work
environment if they are not appropriately managed. As a leader, I must be able to resolve
problems gently and get employees back on track. Using one's emotional intelligence can
assist me in understanding and empathizing with individuals involved in the disagreement,
resulting in better manager/employee interactions and a faster resolution.
Ability to work with different personal styles and approaches- To work well with my
staff, I should modify my leadership style to match their demands. While leadership classes
might help me improve this skill, asking my team for input can also help me stay adaptable
with my leadership style.
b. Make a list of your strengths as a manager
Reliable- I ensure that my staff completes duties on time as a manager. They have earned
their title because of my work ethic and dependability.
Motivational- I motivate my teams to achieve their full potential as a manager. I strive to be
enthusiastic and passionate about my work and values. I come up with unique concepts that
thrill my teams while providing them with employee support and motivation.
Problem-solving- I motivate my teams to achieve their full potential as a manager. I strive to
be enthusiastic and passionate about my work and values. I come up with unique concepts
that thrill my teams while providing them with employee support and motivation.
Flexible- As a manager, I must be able to adjust quickly to changing work environments and
new or unforeseen scenarios. I should learn rapidly so that they may be productive and
efficient leaders.
c. Compare those to the characteristics of a good leader and a manager you learned in class.
In class, I learned that leaders construct a picture of what they perceive as feasible and
motivate and engage their teams to make that vision a reality. They consider things beyond
what people do. They inspire people to become a part of something bigger. They understand
that high-functioning teams may do far more than individuals working alone. Managers are
concerned with the setting, assessing, and attaining objectives. They exert control over
conditions to achieve or exceed their goals. Also, I learned that leaders are willing to attempt
new things, even if they are likely to fail terribly. They understand that failure is frequently a
necessary step toward achievement. At the same time, managers strive to reduce risk. Instead
of embracing challenges, they want to avoid or control them.
By comparing the attributes I learned to the characteristics I possess, I recognized that
managers and leaders play distinct roles in the workplace. For example, both are in control of
groups of people, assist individuals or organizations in achieving their goals, and offer a
structure for others. They only differ in the job they play, yet both influence and inspire their
staff.
2. Explain by example the conceptual skills of leadership. Why is it important to the top managers?
For example, I'm working as a manager in a neighborhood coffee shop, and a Starbucks opens
down the street. The potential challenges with this would be competing on pricing, quality, brand
popularity, and so on, which could affect the business's profitability.
An individual with conceptual skills would be able to look at this issue and design a plan to
guarantee there is the lowest impact on the firm. For example, cutting pricing, strengthening the
brand, providing things that a Starbucks would be unable to provide owing to their branding, such
as an in-store bookstore, and even partnering with the brand in some way. Without conceptual
abilities, you can only notice the details, not the big picture.
Conceptual abilities are essential for top managers because they provide managers with the
underlying knowledge needed to address complex and dynamic organizational problems. They
also enable leaders to create innovative ideas while keeping the big picture in mind.
3. If you are the Chief Nurse of a hospital, give example at least each of the major function of a
Chief Nurse.

 Nursing Duties- The hospital administration requires a chief nurse to uphold clinical and patient-
care standards. This involves ensuring that patients are safe in the hospital and receive
appropriate medical care. To accomplish this, the chief nursing officer must collaborate closely
with hospital administration and stakeholders to secure the necessary infrastructure and resources.
 Administrative Roles- A chief nursing officer is responsible for various tasks, including
administrative duties. He/she occasionally assumes the responsibilities of the hospital's chief
administrator or CEO. He/she arranges and supervises the hospital's daily activities, ensuring
everything goes well. This includes organizing, directing, and coordinating medical and health
services following government legislation and the board of trustees' policies.
 Leadership Roles- The government and hospital management require a chief nursing officer to set
high standards for other staff members to follow. He/she motivates others through his actions and
encourages them to follow best practices when dealing with patients. He/she attempts to create a
collaborative environment for other nurses by developing tactics for teamwork.
a. Following steps in developing a policy, give 2 example of policy in a hospital where you are
working.

 Patient care policies- Effective policies, for example, should address what treatments your
hospital performs, what illnesses and injuries your facility treat, when to send patients to other
facilities, and when to transfer them. Your patient care policies should specifically outline how to
manage specific medical scenarios, such as bodily fluid exposure or medical emergencies.
 Workplace health and safety policies- With patients at the center of your healthcare policy, it is
reasonable to incorporate a variety of policies that protect your most valuable asset, your workers.
As the most valuable resource in any healthcare facility, employees require (and deserve)
regulations that protect their health and safety at work. This is especially true for healthcare
professionals, who confront far higher health hazards than most other industrial vocations.
b. What is its importance to the operation of a hospital nursing service?

 Healthcare policy is vital because it aids in establishing guidelines that benefit patients,
healthcare organizations, and our healthcare system. Protocols can assist prevent human
error and poor communication regarding medical decisions. Understanding and adhering
to policies can help nurses ensure they provide the most excellent care to their patients
while informing future policies. On a broader level, when patients take the time to learn
about healthcare policy, they gain a better understanding of their rights.
