SECTIONS: BSHM 2A TITLE: SEAT WORK NO. 2 ABOUT BASKETBALL HISTORY

1. Discuss briefly the history of basketball

Prior to what I learned from the previous about the History of Basketball. It’s began in 1891, it was
invented by James Naismith, in Springfield, Massachusetts. That day, The Basketball game discover by
soccer team that trapped in the gymnasium and since soccer usually played outdoor and it was snowy
that day and James discover a ball and a peach basket so James decided to play a shoot the ball in the
peach basket to have fun. The First ball used was soccer ball, and because James Naismith who was the
inventor of the new game. Someone proposed to call it "Naismith Game, but he suggested "We have a
ball and a basket: why don't we call it basketball, and that was the brief history of basketball.

2. What is the objectives of the game

A basketball game's main goal is to score points by putting the ball inside the hoop (basket) and to keep
the opposing team from doing the same. A basketball game begins in the center of the court with the
referee throwing the ball high up in the air and one player from each team competing for possession.
Basketball used to be played with only a soccer ball and two peach baskets, but as the world evolves and
changes, so does the games basketball, but the main objectives remain the same which is to score goals,
score points, and, of course, to win the game.

3. What are the equipment used in Basketball

If I were to ask about what are the equipment used in basketball, I could say that there is two different
equipment used in basketball if I will differentiate the history equipment used and now.

Before it was Two peach baskets and a soccer ball were the equipment used. Naismith put the baskets at
each end of the gym, nailed 10 feet above the floor. The teams each had nine players. Naismith threw the
ball in the air for the first tipoff.

By 1906, the peach basket we’re replaced by metal baskets with holes in the bottom

And now, James Naismith improves and enhance the equipment from peach basket to a hoop with a net
so that the basketball could fall free to the ground and also backboard that was constructed out of wire
mesh and wood before and now it is made out of glass.
