Purpose:
To inform users of the possibility of defective master links on package lifting kits, and of the man-
ufacturer’s recall of the links.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
American Rigging & Supply, supplier of the package lifting kits, has advised Solar that they are
recalling some of the model A-342 master links, two (2) inches and over, used on Solar package
lifting kits. An incident has occurred which makes an identifiable number of these links suspect
and possibly dangerous to use.

The master links in question may have been supplied with package lift kits, Solar P/N’s as follows:

70-47039-PD(Solar Project Definition Number)


70-30936-XXX
70-30922-XXX
70-31034-XXX

The master link is a part of the main bridle assembly P/N: 70-30923 (Figure 1). In some of the
larger kits it is also part of the lower bridle assembly.

The links in question can be identified by their product identification code (P.I.C.). The P.I.C. code
numbers refered to in Table 1 are subject to recall.

ACTION REQUIRED:
Inspect the P.I.C number on the master link (Figure 2) contained in your kit. If it matches any of the
numbers in Table 1, immediately remove the master link from service by cutting (burning) the link
at the 45 markings (see Figure 2). This will allow removal of the wire rope slings and eliminate
the link from service.

To receive replacement part(s) at no charge, return the destroyed master link(s) to:

Ship the link, freight collect, via the most economical method. Include return address information
for replacement parts.

American Rigging & Supply will furnish the following replacement parts:

• Master link(s) with capacity to match the original part returned.

• Two shackles, to attach the master link to the wire rope bridles.

In cases where the package lift kits have served their purpose and are now deemed surplus, please
destroy the master link and forward the P.I.C. number to American Rigging. This procedure will
insure the specific link is eliminated from the recall list.
