 IMAM AL-GHAZALI
● Al-Ghazali is regarded as one of Islam's
greatest jurists, theologians, and
philosophers.
● In his hometown of Tus, Gurgan, and
Nishapur in northern Iran, he studied several
aspects of traditional Islamic religious
sciences.
● From a young age, he was also involved in
Sufi traditions.
● Al-Ghazali was born around 450 AH, or
between March 1058 and February 1059 CE,
as Abu Hamid ibn Muhammad al-Ghazali.
● Many Westerners refer to him as Algazel.
● He was born at Tabaran, in the district of Tus,
which is now in modern-day Iran.
● During his lifetime, al-Ghazali wrote over 70
volumes on science, Islamic philosophy, and
Sufism
● Both Muslim and Christian medieval
philosophers were influenced by Al-Ghazali.
● St. Thomas Aquinas was one of the most
influential.
● Al-Ghazali was also instrumental in bringing
Sufism and Shariah together.
● He was the first to incorporate Sufi notions into
Shariah law and the first to provide a formal
account of Sufism in his books.
● Al-Ghazali work boost Sunni Islam's position in
comparison to other schools of thought.
 IMAM AL-GHAZALI VIEWPOINT ON EDUCATION

“...Al-Ghazali asserts that education as a process that must lead human beings
towards the consciousness of the Creator in order to obey His commands.”

- It means that Imam Al-Ghazali believe that education works as a tool to learn
about God & it also work as a key to be closer with God.
- Education and Shariah cannot be separated between each other which based on
Quran & Sunnah

Education in Malaysia is an ongoing effort
towards further developing the potential of
individuals in a holistic and integrated
manner, so as to produce individuals who
are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and
physically balanced and harmonious, based
on a firm belief in and devotion to God.
