GW PL DP/MODBUS

Modbus to PROFIBUS DP converter

Data sheet

1 Description
The GW PL DP/MODBUS is a DIN rail-mounted gateway
module for interfacing Modbus® slave devices to a
PROFIBUS DP network. The gateway enables an existing
Modbus field device to become a PROFIBUS DP-compliant
device.
The GW PL DP/MODBUS is a Modbus master that
communicates with slave devices, typically measurement
instruments, that use Modbus. The gateway reads variables
from the instrument and converts them to dynamic variables
on PROFIBUS. Four analog input function blocks are
supported. The location of the Modbus registers and data
type of the Modbus variable can be configured.
The Primary Variable is read continuously and updated. Any
Modbus communication problem is reported in the
PROFIBUS diagnostics message. The physical interface is
RS-485.
GW PL DP/MODBUS supports alarm flagging in the
module. Four alarm levels are supported along with low-
pass filtering. Users can configure the GW PL DP/MODBUS
using standard configuration tools.

Make sure you always use the latest documentation.

6 Installation Item Description

6.1 Mounting 1 Power connector
2 PROFIBUS DP COMBICON connector
The GW PL .../MODBUS mounts on NS 35 DIN rail and
utilizes the ME 22.5 TBUS connector. 3 PROFIBUS DP D-SUB 9 connector
1. Secure the mounting rail to an appropriate surface and 4 Modbus connector
position the ME 22,5 TBUS connector within the rail. 5 Modbus connector
Ensure that the connectors are oriented properly. 6 LEDs
7 PROFIBUS DP termination switch
The shield connection to ground is through 8 PROFIBUS DP address switch
the module to the DIN rail. Therefore, the DIN 9 Modbus termination switch
rail must be grounded.

2. Ensure that the DIN rail is connected to ground. Power connector (Item 1)
3. Place the module on the DIN rail from above. The upper
keyway must be hooked on the top edge of the DIN rail. Pos. Label Function
Rotate the module toward the rail, making sure it aligns 1 24 V
with the ME 22,5 TBUS connector, until it snaps in 2 0V
place. 3 NC Not connected
6.2 Removal 4 NC Not connected

1. Insert a suitable tool, e.g., screwdriver, into the release

latch and pull it down. Modbus connector (Item 4)
2. Pull the module slightly away from the mounting surface
by rotating it upward. Pos. Label Function
3. Lift the module from the rail. 1 1A Signal A from Modbus device 1
