LESSON ASSIGNMENT 1
How relevant is the curriculum to the achievement of the national goals?

The curriculum is relevant in achieving the national goals as it serves as the

blueprint for the implementation of the National Philosophy and Objectives of
Education. It is the guideline to achieving the objectives planned for education in
a country, in a school or an organization. Moreover, curriculum provides a link
between the goals and objectives of education and the implementation strategies
of the educational processes.

LESSON ASSIGNMENT 2
By using a topic from your subject area, describe the nine components of the National
Curriculum Module.

1. Module- The topic of the module I choose is “Living things and their
Environment.” But since it’s a broad topic, I will be only focusing on
“Animal---Vertebrates, and Invertebrates.”
2. Objectives- The objectives describe the knowledge the pupils will gain, or
the skills they will acquire after the teaching and learning experiences of
the Lesson in the module. So, the objectives for the topic I choose are: to
demonstrate understanding of the different characteristics of vertebrates
and invertebrates and; to make an inventory of vertebrates and
invertebrates that are commonly seen in the community.
3. Content- The content contains the lesson and the sequence of ideas or
information that will be presented. The content of my lesson are:
Vertebrates have a skeletal structure with a spinal column or backbone.
Invertebrates have no backbone, while vertebrates have a well-developed
internal skeleton of cartilage and bone and a highly developed brain that is
enclosed by a skull. Sponges, corals, worms, insects, spiders and crabs
are all sub-groups of the invertebrate group. Fish, reptiles, birds,
amphibians and mammals are different sub-groups of vertebrates.
4. Teacher Activities- This suggests what the teacher should do to lead the
pupils to achieve the objectives. Thus, the activities that I will do are the
following: Show pictures of animals that are grouped into two and ask
students of what they observe in the pictures; Discuss the definition of
vertebrates and invertebrates and; guide learners to distinguish the
vertebrates and invertebrates animals through listing them on the
blackboard.
5. Pupils’ Activities- these are set of activities to motivate and lead the pupils
to achieve the objectives. The Pupils’ Activities during my lesson would be:
distinguish the characteristics of vertebrates and invertebrates animals
through picture analysis and create a list of animals that belong to
vertebrates and invertebrates.
6. Teaching-Learning Aids- are materials and objects you, as the teacher, can
integrate into your lesson to help the pupils learn effectively. The Teaching-
Learning Aids that I will be going to use are: Printed Pictures, Charts, and
reference book.
7. Evaluation Guide- are the specific tasks or behavior the pupils should be
able to perform at the conclusion of the lesson. So, at the end of the
lesson, learners should: state the characteristics of vertebrates and
invertebrates animals and; name some vertebrates and invertebrates
animals that are commonly seen in the community.
8. Suggested Assessment Techniques- These are the suggested instruments
to be used for assessment. The assessment techniques that I will employ
will be question and answer and venn diagram analysis.
9. Suggested Period- This is the time frame for completing the topic during
the term. The period of time that I will be teaching the topic will be one day
only.

6.0 INSTRUCTOR-MARKED ACTIVITIES

i. In what ways are the designs of instructional materials affected/ influenced by the
curriculum?
The designs of instructional materials affected/ influenced by the
curriculum because curriculum contains the learning experiences,
standards, and objectives that the teachers and learners should go through
before, during, and after the teaching-learning process. Hence instructional
materials should constitute to the objectives of the curriculum to meet the
desired outcome and to maximize the use of materials in learning the
lesson.

ii. Why will you consider the curriculum as teachers’ resource material?
Curriculum must be considered as teachers’ resource material because it
guides them towards more systematic and meaningful pedagogy. The
curriculum offers a quantifiable strategy and structure for delivering a
quality education to teachers. The learning outcomes, standards, and basic
competencies that students must demonstrate before moving on to the
next level are specified in the curriculum.
iii. Mention the components of the actual curriculum used by teachers for classroom
lesson planning.
The components of actual curriculum used by teachers for classroom
lesson planning are the following: the Title of the lesson that includes the
subject, grade level and general description of the lesson; the objectives
in which it determine what the students should learn/do; the materials
which include all the instructional aids being used; the procedure that
outline the steps of the teaching-learning process and; and assessment
that evaluate the learnings of the pupils.
