2. a. The membrane. The covering around the cell. It protects the inside of the cell.
b. The cytoplasm. The liquid between the nucleus and the membrane. It contains
lots of organelles.
c. The organelles. They carry out the different functions of the cell.
d. The nucleus. The part that coordinates the activities of the cell.
3. Ss do a drawing and label the cell wall, membrane, organelles, cytoplasm,
chloroplasts and nucleus. See Student’s Book p13.
Differences between plant and animal cells:
M.A. Unlike animal cells, plant cells have a rigid cell wall around the membrane.
Also, Plant cells have specialised organelles called chloroplasts that contain a
green substance called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs sunlight, which plants
need to make their own food. It gives plant cells their green colour.
