1. In your own opinion what does Linguistic mean?

In my opinion, linguistics is the science that studies the different parts of a


language, such as sound, speech or structure.

2. What areas involve the linguistic study?

Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics and Lexicon.

3. What pragmatic means?

In linguistics, pragmatics is the study of how context contributes to meaning. The


field of study evaluates how human language is utilized in social interactions, as
well as the relationship between the interpreter and the interpreted.

4. language vs. parole Langue make a comparison and similarities list

Language is the language system shared by a speech community and according to


Saussure the genuine topic of linguistics, whereas parole langue signifies the act of
speaking in actual situations by an individual.

the similarity I can see in both is centered on language, one in its capacity and the
other in its behavior.

5. Present a real life example where you as a student face a situation of competence
vs. performance situation.

A real life example I could give to understand these two terms would be the
following. Competency is when I speak based on my knowledge and everything I

know about a language. English, when I am saying or writing a sentence from my


knowledge without knowing if it is correct. While performance is when I research
and write a paragraph correctly putting into practice all the rules and structure that
English has.

 The sounds of speech and how different sounds function in a language


 The psychological processes involved in the use of language

 The acoustics of speech and the physiological and psychological aspects
involved in producing and understanding it
 The biological basis of language in the brain

8. Mention the three Linguistic categories and explain one.

 The study of language form: the study of language form, its focus is the
systematic investigation of the properties of particular languages as well as
the characteristics of language in general.

9. Give me your own Language acquisition definition.

in my opinion language acquisition is the process that all of us go through when


learning and understanding a language, whether it is our native language or
another language. in other words, it is when we are able to be aware of language
and understand it.

10. Give me your own sociolinguistic acquisition definition.

From my point of view, I can define sociolinguistic acquisition as the way we learn
to speak according to the social context in which we grew up and I can also define
it as the way we express ourselves and communicate according to the different
social context we are in.
