Topic: An In-depth Analysis on the Financial Status of Philippine Airlines Since 2015

Statement of the problem:

The study seeks to answer the following questions:

• How did the financial status of Philippine Airlines behave since 2015?
• What are the events that might have affected such behavior?
• What is the impact that competing airline companies have provided towards the
said airline’s financial status?
• How did the competitors fare in the same conditions and timeframe?
• How did the rates for the service of Philippine Airlines affect their financial status?
• What executive actions did the company take in relation to their financial situation
for the said period of time?

Research Gap:

Existing research and studies have focused on management and the inner
workings in airlines in the Philippines as well as the organizational aspect of the company.
Specifically, such papers delved into the leadership style, operational expenses,
infrastructure, and the changing markets of airlines. This study, however, would focus on
the net income, related events, competition, service differences and rates, along with the
course of action that the company has decided to take. Moreover, the coverage of events
in this paper is bound to be wider as it would include more recent events and would focus
solely on the airlines itself. From these, the study would create inferences and develop
links that could map out the case Philippine Airlines in terms of their financial aspect.

Significance of the Study:

If definitive conclusions were to be made regarding the financial status of Philippine

Airlines, the study could prove beneficial to:
a. customers and potential ones, who might prefer to know more about the financial
situation of Philippine Airlines which offers long-haul and business flights;
b. Filipinos, who are entitled to the information in relation to their flag carrier airline;
c. Philippine Airlines, which might seek a summary of events that transpired in their
career and be helpful for their recovery
d. future researchers, who aim to perform studies in regards to topics similar to this
study;
e. people who plan to take up careers in similar industries, that might need materials
that discuss related topics such as this study.
