What is Osmosis? Why it is important for human body?
UNDERSTANDING OSMOSIS
When two solutions, one containing more water, and another containing less water, are separated by a
membrane that has small holes, water moves from the solution which has more water to the solution that has
less water through the holes in the membrane. This process is called Osmosis.
The movement of water continues till both the solutions have the same amount of water.

Osmosis happens in the kidneys so that the water that was taken from the blood while removing wastes
from it can come back to the blood. In this way our body conserve water. Once the water and useful
substances are taken back from the filtrate in the nephron tube, what remains in the tube passes into the
ureter is Urine.
Task: In the images given on the right raisins placed in beakers of various concentrations. Observe the images
carefully and draw an arrow to show which way the water would move by Osmosis
