GENERIC 1. A word refers to a word that classifies related words such as things, planets, and food.
SPECIFIC WORDS 2. A word chosen over generic ones because they give clearer and more precise
meanings.
CONTEXT CLUES 3. It helps us work out the meaning of unfamiliar terminologies without looking them
up in the dictionary.
DEFINITION/ DESCRIPTION CLUE 4. The new term expressly defined in the sentences or adequate
explanation is provided to understand the new term.
EXAMPLE CLUES 5. This can be used as a hint to the meaning of an unknown word. The words, for
example, like, including, and such as show example clues.
SYNONYM RESTATEMENT CLUE 6. Another technique to derive context meaning is by the repetition of
an idea expressed. Use the synonym to repeat an idea. 
CONTRAST/ ANTONYM CLUE 7. This technique uses the opposite meaning of an unfamiliar word.
MOOD/ TONE CLUE 8. The meaning of the unfamiliar word must harmonize with the sentence’s mood
or tone (an idea presented). 
CAUSE AND EFFECT CLUE 9. The unfamiliar word is explained through the relationship between cause
and effect. The signal words (conjunction) such as “since,” “thus”, “therefore,” “so,” etc., maybe your
clues.
IDIOMATIC EXPRESSION 10. An idiom is a combination of words or an expression whose definition
cannot be comprehended from the denotative meanings of the words in it.

1. How does developmental reading differ from that of reading comprehension?
- Developmental Reading refers to a comprehensive reading curriculum that spans many time
periods or phases. These time periods are usually associated with a person's developmental
phases. Reading comprehension refers to the capacity to read, process, and comprehend
material. It is based on two skills: word reading (the ability to decipher the symbols on the page)
and language comprehension (being able to understand the meaning of the words and
sentences).
2. Why intensive reading is more serious than extensive reading?
- Intensive reading is more serious because it fosters critical thinking and analytical skills in the reader
while also enhancing reading abilities, vocabulary, and grammatical understanding and extensive
reading improves the reader's reading speed and fluency.
