DOES BEAUTY PAGEANTS CREATE

UNREALISTIC BEAUTY?

There are several beauty pageants across the world, and each one has
distinct ladies who embrace their own beauty and demonstrate their
confidence. Beauty pageants, in my opinion, do not generate unrealistic
beauty standards since every woman is beautiful in their own way.
Nina Davuluri was crowned Miss America and given the title on September
16, 2013. One of the most well-known pageants in the world is the Miss
America Pageant. It has also sparked debate since it emphasizes physical
features and promotes unrealistic feminine characteristics. As most people
are aware, beauty pageants have psychological consequences that
competitors must deal with. The newly crowned Miss America, on the other
hand, maintains that the contest encourages female empowerment.
Female empowerment, it appears, in Nina Davuluri’s view, implies that
women should rely on their beautiful looks to achieve. Is it a positive
picture, though, or just a nice picture? No, I don't think so. It's also been
proved that beauty pageants can lead to low self-esteem and body image
concerns. It's a lot of pressure to put on someone, since only ladies who
appear like they belong in magazines, on television, or in movies will be
successful in pageants.
"They need to know what is going on across the world and be able to
represent the country with brains and integrity," Amanda Kaplan said in her
piece (Kaplan). Miss America beauty pageants demand competitors to be
informed about current events and educated in order to be eligible for a
scholarship, advancing their academic advancement. That indicates that
not all beauty pageants have appearance requirements since all they need
is inner beauty, intellect, and integrity to win a contest and receive the
prizes they desire, such as scholarships and educational opportunities.
In Conclusion, I disagree that beauty pageants create unrealistic beauty
standards since they serve to both honor and empower and motivate
women. In recent years, there has been a significant shift in worldwide
opinions of beauty. The focus has shifted away from fashionable models
and toward natural beauty with a variety of attributes and characteristics,
creating a need for strong women who have succeeded on their own terms
and have something to say. Beauty pageants are about more than just
having a beautiful and perfect physical appearance; they are also about
having confidence, being knowledgeable about everything in our
surroundings, and having a positive outward appearance. Beauty is a
psychological characteristic that exists only in the mind that contemplates
it, and each mind interprets beauty differently.
