Are beauty pageants a way to objectifying women?

Beauty Pageant: empowering or objectifying women.

Beauty pageants are not meant to objectify or degrade a woman. Because beauty pageants don’t
objectify women but it empowers them, it gives them the confidence that makes them realize that we are
all beautiful in our way. And today pageants are more open to the different measures of beauty, they
excluded the old standards and stereotypes, they focus more on the intellectual than the actual outside
beauty.
The beauty pageant has been part of women’s lives. It is like a basketball game that we are all waiting and
looking forward to. There are over 100,000 beauty pageants held in the universe every year, and over 2.5
million girls, ranging from ages zero to mid-twenties across the world compete in these competitions. A
bountiful amount of people all over the world feel that beauty pageants are degrading to women and
objectify them. I joined some beauty pageants before and I don’t think that it gives people the right to
objectify women, aside from appearance it only shows my skills, my technique, and expresses my ways
on how dealing with issues. Other people may say those beauty pageants are a way to objectifying and
degrading women and it stereotypes women and gives society an idea of what body type, sizes, beauty
should a woman be and make a woman change because beauty pageants create the standard that people
should look for a girl that they in their life. Though it may seem so because an important point that
matters is the physical appearance-height, beauty, and other similar parameters. But there is much more to
it, confidence, wit, presence of mind, at the moment response is also taken into account. According to
some research, women usually boost their self-esteem whenever they join a beauty pageant. In addition to
that beauty pageants are for all, it’s a way for women to express themselves. It doesn’t focus on the
outside beauty of a woman, it focuses on the inside, on what they think about the issues of the world.
Nowadays, beauty pageants show how mindful a woman can be not just because she has the body and
looks to make people agree with her but with her advocacies in life. What will she do to a certain issue
that the world, the universe rather, they show that woman has a purpose in life, not just a woman who
stays inside the house and sit beautifully.
Some people would ask “do beauty pageants are the way of objectifying women?” it's more like
empowering women, they captivate us with their physical beauty but the main purpose of a pageant is to
give purpose to a woman. To make her realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It doesn’t matter
about the looks, the ‘hour glass’ body you have, what matters is how you look into things. Nevertheless,
is it the beauty pageant the one that objectifies women, or is it the mind of the people who are watching
the competition?
