Learning Activities
Activity 1 Types of Measurement
A. Classify the following either as objective or subjective measurement:
1. Age in pupil in years objective measurement
2. Test score in Grade 3 science objective measurement
3. Class participation subjective measurement
4. Showmanship in a school play subjective measurement
5. Classroom behavior scale subjective measurement
B. The following test scores in First year algebra were observed for a particularstudent75, 82, 83, 76, 81,
78.
1. Assuming that these test scores reflect the student’s true ability plus random error, what would
be your best guess of the student’s true ability? Why? Calculate the difference between the
actual score and your best guess of the true ability Of the student. What is the sum of these
differences? (De Guzman, 2007, p.18).
Answer:
I need to get the average of the scores provided by adding and divide it by 6. Upon getting
the average, the true ability guess is 79. 17.
Actual test score:
75+82+83+76+81+78=475
475÷6 =79.17 – true ability guess

1. D= 75- 79.17 = -4.17 2. D= 82-79.17= 2.83 3. D= 83- 79.17= 3.83 4. D= 76-79.17=-

3.17
5. D= 81-79.17= 1.83 6. D = 78-79.17=-1.17
Adding all the difference :
-4.17 + 2.83+ 3.83 +-3.17 + 1.83+ -1.17 = -1/50 or -0.02
Then,- 0.02 – 79.17 is equal to 79.15
The total average is 79.15 and that’s how the first year students performed in algebra class.
Activity 2. Indicators, Variables and Factors Consider the following measured variables:
– X1 = Logical reasoning
– X2 = Sentence construction
– X3 = Basketball skills
– X4 = Folk dancing skills
– X5 = Computational skills
– X6 = Vocabulary
– X7= Geometry skills

1. How many factors can you identify? Name these factors and justify your groupings.

Answer:
Based on the skills provided above there are three factors. These are the following:
Mathematical Ability ( X1, X5 and X7) Language Ability ( X2 and X6) ,Psychomotor ability ( X3 and X4).

2. Find some indicators of X3 and X4. Discuss these indicators, (De Guzman,2007, p.19).

Answer:
We all know that X3 is indicated as a sport while X4 is a recreational activity and it involves the
function of our body movements that is why it is classified as psychomotor abilities.
