A misunderstanding

Everyone very scared if principal because he was stern. Twenty minutes ago, he asked me go see
him in office. He was sitting behind of the desk. I tried to mask my fear with avoided eye contact
with him. My heart was thumping erratically. I placed my arms behind my back and waiting
nervously for principal to speak.

I knew I should not be late to school three consecutive days. However, unexpected things kept
happening. On the first day, I rescued a kitten that stuck on a tree. It was trembling so I carried it
with my arms cautiously. The next day, a blind man was crossing a busy road. The vehicles did not
slow down and stop so I decided to lend a hand. This morning, an old lady was panting and wheezing
climbing up a stairs of an overhead bridge by carrying some shopping bags. Then I offered to help
the old lady carry the bags to her house. The discipline master was always at the gate. Students who
were late need to explain why they are late. I explained that I helped the kitten and the blind man.
He chose to believe me and did not punish me. He warned me not to be late next time. For the third
time, he became furious and refused my story and called me a liar.

When the door opened, my discipline master entered principal’s office. My discipline master
explained to principal that I broke the school rules. He said that me came late and refused to tell the
truth. My eyes brimmed with tears. I remembered what my parents told. My parents reminded me
to be kind to compassionate others. I had not done anything wrong so I should not feel bad and
embarrassed.

“That’s enough, Mr Tan,” my school principal, Mr Tim interrupted Mr Tan. Mr Lim gazed to me. A
while he questioned me “Is lied can cooked up an excuses to do not punish for coming late?” “Mr
Tan is right, you late for school three days in row and did not make up any stories and told the truth
that you late and helped others and did not do purpose,” Mr Lim replied firmly. I prayed Mr Lim
judge fair and impartial. My eyes were not downcast and stared Mr Tan and Mr Lim firmly.

Suddenly, someone knock on the door. Teacher let an old lady entered and said “Mr Lim someone
is here to see you,” I was astonished that she is the old lady that I helped in the morning when I
walked to school. She explained that worried of me was getting trouble for helping me and coming
school late so she decided made a trip to school and clarify all things. After listened she explained,
discipline master felt bewildered.

“I am misunderstanding and he did not lie and he will get a honour considerate Eamon,” and Mr
Lim announced and looking pointedly to discipline master. Discipline master apologised to me
immediately and strode out of the office. I am glad that the old lady was to clear the air and I heaved
a sigh of relief. Moral of the story is One good turn deserves another.
