How to use this Resource
Preparation:
Print out the game cards front-to-back. I use LONG-EDGE BINDING to get
the cards just right, but with every printer being different, you may need to
test it first.
Once all the cards are printed, cut them out along the black lines.
Store game cards in a quart sized Ziploc bag, pencil box, or in a photo
organizer container.
You pick!
Choose how you want your students to interact with the cards. Or, for
maximum engagement, allow your students to choose how they want to
interact with the cards. Each game can be played with 2 or more players.
Board Game:
Materials Needed: game board, game cards, game pieces
Time: 15 – 30 minutes
Select your gameboard. Player 1 will select a card and answer it. If player 1
answers correctly, then s/he advances on the game board the number
indicated on the card. If player 1 does not answer correctly, then s/he stay
in the same spot. Player 2 will repeat the instructions on the game board.
The first player to make it to finish wins.
STEM to Win!
Materials Needed: game cards, Legos (substitute for toothpicks and
playdough if necessary).
Player1 will select a card. If player 1 answers the card correctly, then s/he
will take the number of Legos indicated on the card. If player 1 answers
incorrectly, then s/he will not take any materials. Once players have gone
through all the cards, the teacher or student with the most Legos will
select one challenge card. Players will complete the challenge using only the
materials earned. Students have one minute to build. The person who
completes the challenge best wins!
How to use this Resource
Pick Up Sticks:
Materials Needed: skewers, craft sticks, or toothpicks
The object of the game is to collect as many sticks as possible without

disturbing the pile. Place sticks in a pile. Player 1 will select a card and answer
it. If player 1 answers correctly, then player 1 will take the amount of sticks
indicated on the card WITHOUT disturbing the rest of the pile. If player 1
does not answer correctly, then player 1 doesn’t take any sticks. Player 2
repeats these steps. If a player disturbs the pile, then the other player is
the winner. If there are more than 2 players, then the player with the
most sticks wins. If all the players pick up sticks without disturbing the pile,
then the winner will be determined by the player with the most sticks.
Race to 20:
Materials Needed: race to 20 board, crayon or marker, game cards
The object of the game is to be the first to have a sum of 20. Player 1 will
take a card. If player 1 answers the card correctly, then s/he will write the
number indicated on the card onto their race to 20 board. If player 1 does
not answer correctly, then s/he will not write anything. Player 2 repeats
these steps. The first player to make a sum of 20 or more wins.
