Current Climate-Hazards and Issues

The Municipal/City water has a total area of 8,478 hectares as the primary source of in -
come of the 3,825 registered fisher-folks that will be affected by changes in the seasonal tem-
perature, extreme rainfall, and storm surge.
The coastal area is composed of the following:
 8.38 hectares of commulative small fresh water impounding fishpond with a total of
150 operators. Currently, fish produce are mostly Tilapia. The estimated productivity
is 17.85 metric tons or 1.428 million pesos;
 13.5 hectares of commercial brackish water fishpond at Banquerohan, Homapon
and Bagacay and with 90 farm workers. Currently these are producing bangus,
prawns, king crabs and tilapia with two harvest seasons/cycles with an estimated
value of 13.5 Million pesos production;
 22.0 hectares of sea grass in Bagacay, Homapon, Banquerohan, Puro, Lamba, Bue-
navista, San Francisco and Maslog. It produces food products such as fish, echino-
derms, mollusks, crustaceans, sea weeds, etc.;
 180 hectares of Mangroves in Banquerohan, Maslog, Bagacay, Homapon, San Fran-
cisco, Buenavista and Lamba. Derived products from Mangroves include wild species
of fishes, crabs, prawns, mollusks, and echinoderms. These areas have public access
that supports 1,393 fisher-folks. These have the production capacity of 1.08 tons per
hectare per year or 2.376 Million pesos;
 759 hectares of coral reef in Puro, Lamba, Maslog, Bagacay, Homapon, Banquero-
han, Buenavista, Padang, Arimbay and Rawis with 3,560 registered fisher-folks. Cur-
rently the potential volume of catch in healthy coral reef areas is 20 tons per
hectare. Based on studies, damaged coral reefs can still produce 4 tons of fish fish
and other aquatic products per hectare per year. However, existing volume of catch
is only 138.690 MT or 0.18 MT per hectare per year.
