Research the following and verify the following decibel ratings:

1. Footsteps
The volume sound of footsteps is between 35.8 and 40.6 decibels (dBA) at slow walking speeds,
37.6 and 44.7 decibels (dBA) at medium walking speeds, and 36.3 to 40.9 decibels (dBA) at rapid
walking speeds.

2. Pistol Sound
Nearly all weapons produce noise that is louder than 140 dB. A little .22-caliber rifle can emit the
sound of around 140 dB, whilst big-bore rifles and pistols can make noise over 175 dB.

3. Nagging partner
The volume sound of an annoying partner ranges from 50 dB to 79 dB. Depending on the type of
sound, sounds started to be seen as annoyance at 53–62 dB SPL, and above 79 dB SPL, they
were perceived as extremely annoying. The loudness ratings and the irritation ratings both
showed an increase in aggravation with increasing sound pressure levels.

4. The bark of a Rottweiler

Dogs may bark up to 90 decibels, but Rottweilers are among the breeds with the loudest barks
in the world, coming in at 103.1 dB.

5. Children playing
According to research, among 110 kids between the ages of six and fourteen, the average noise
level during the day was 90 dB, which is roughly the volume of city traffic. These decibel levels
on the playground reached 115, which is comparable to a noisy subway or loud rock music.

6. Orchestra
A jackhammer and a symphony orchestra both produce noises of about 110 dB. It makes sense
that up to 50% of musicians experience hearing issues. Your ear receives sound as vibrations.
The vibrations are stronger at higher decibel levels.

7. Musical Play
"We went to ten different spots downtown and we measured how loud it was for around 60
minutes," Tittman said of his latest investigation into the volume of Broadway. Tittman equated
130 decibels to being next to an ambulance siren: "We had measures upwards of 139 decibels
being the peak level." With this argument, we can say that the sound of a musical play ranges
between 130 to 145 dB.

8. Teacher in classroom
Given that the instructor's voice is typically between 50 and 50 decibels, the amount of
background noise present will prevent the teacher from being heard until they raise their voice
to drown out the background noise (to about 78 dBA). Therefore, 35 dB (A) is the maximum
level of background noise that is permitted in a classroom, and for effective communication,
there must be a difference of more than 15 dB between background noise and the teacher's
vocal signal.

9. Traffic along the highway

Highway traffic noise levels normally vary between 70 and 80 dB (A) at a distance of 15 meters
(50 ft).

10. Market with loud vendors

73.4 dBA was the average market or street noise level, with significant spatial variance (range
55.8-95.0 dBA). Excessive market or street level noise levels were highly correlated with
population density, vehicle (road) traffic, or loud vendors thus the sound of a market with loud
vendors ranges from 70 to 80 dB.
