PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1. Name and describe your organization.

My pharmacy is undergoing a shift in how we do everyday operation. Due to

COVID we must learn how to add on a bigger workload with less help and resources. I

am the Pharmacy Operation Manager (RXOM). I oversee everyday operations as well as

the first in command for my technicians. I am new into this role and have been picking

the mess of my pharmacy manager (RXM). He ruled the pharmacy like a dictatorship and

has caused a lot of stress for my pharmacy. Although I have been figuring it out, it has

not been the easiest road.

2. (Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My role in the pharmacy is the Pharmacy Operation Manager (RXOM). I am in

charge of every day operations in the pharmacy. These responsibilities include, hiring

technicans, scheduling, inventory, and training to just name a few. I am very involved

with my pharmacy as I must lead by example.

3. Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader

understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require

1
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the

mass of information that might be included).

The situation I will be discussing will be how COVID-19 has impacted not only the

pharmacy business, but my pharmacy specifically. Since COVID-19 we have seen an

increase of responsibility with little to no compensation for the additional work and a

decrease of resources. The increase of responsibilities include, COVID testing and

vaccinations, mailing prescriptions, and an increase expectations of everyday tasks like

filling prescriptions with less help that I started out with prior to COVID. With these higher

expectations and less resources my pharmacy is overworked and burnt out. It is up to me, the

RXOM, to provide my staff with adequate resources and training as we continue in the post

COVID world.
