PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

I work as a staff accountant with a staffing agency that hires temporary doctors,
nurses, and other medical professionals. The company is privately owned and operated.
The customers are the healthcare facilities and the medical employees that we contract to
work for facilities. The healthcare facilities rely on the agency to help meet their medical
healthcare needs worldwide. The organization has been in business for about 21 years
and is a Fortune 500 company. The company has three branches to help facilitate the
need for large, medium and small sized healthcare needs.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

I am an internal staff accountant. My job consists of reconciling monthly reports,

processing tax payments, reconciling contractors vacation hours, reconciling bank
accounts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. I am also tasked with managing the mid-
size company and all their accounting processes. I work directly the management team
and assist when needed in various projects such a audits, training and creating processes.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

My former manager, Greg, had connections with the agency. Greg reached out to
me and requested that I apply as an accountant with the healthcare company as it was in

dire need for help with it’s accounting needs. I specialize in attention to detail and
creating special acounting processes. Greg had informed me that the agency that I would
be applying to was a Fortune 500 Company. I was very impressed with the information
that was shared on their website. Although I was not looking for a new job, I felt that this
change would be a welcomed one and that I would be able to take on a new role with new
leadership. The one thing that hindered any new job search was that I needed a job that
could balance my school, family, and work schedule. I was in for a surprise! Since the
day I began working, I have not had the time to take any vacation days. The agency is
consistently busy and under staffed. The agency is unorganized, chaotic, and has a few
employees who do not want to welcome any new changes. Although the owner has hired
new management, not knowing how to lead has created conflict within the agency.
