Passenger’s complaints on pedicab fare

Pedicab operations were suspended after the Municipality of Bantayan convened an

assembly of pedicab drivers last September 26, 2022 in the Municipal Gym, led by
Sanguniang Bayan Members Jeffrey Barretto and Orlando Layese. The assembly
was also attended by the head of Bantayan Traffic Operation Management (BTOM)
Leonil Seares. This was carried out in response to many complaints from pedicab
passengers.

The pedicab drivers served as an important sector of the labor force in the
community, but they must be regulated and controlled. In accordance with this, an
ordinance was passed last 2018 about regulating the pedicab operations, list of
routes and schedules of operations, and other regulations.

Based on the said ordinance, the pedicab fare from Bantayan Plaza to Bantayan
Southern Institute (BSI) and Vice Versa is P10.00, from Bantayan Plaza to Barangay
Suba and Vice Versa is P10.00, from Bantayan Plaza to Bantayan Central
Elementary School and Vice Versa is P10.00, from Bantayan Plaza to Sitio Circulo,
Barangay Ticad and Vice Versa is P15.00, and from Bantayan Plaza to Corner Doña
Homes, Barangay Bantigue and Vice Versa is P15.00. An additional P5.00 is
charged when out of the designated route.

Those who do not adhere to the agreed-upon fare code will be restricted from
operating their pedicab.
