ISO 50001:2011 @ Tata Power - DDL

ISO 50001 : 2011

• What is it?
– ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management System – Requirements with guidance for
use is a specification created by the International Organization for Standardization
(ISO) for an energy management system

– ISO 50001:2011 is based on the management system model of continual

improvement also used for other well-known standards such as ISO 9001 or ISO
14001

– This makes it easier for organizations to integrate energy management into their
overall efforts to improve quality and environmental management

– Successful Implementation depends on commitment from all levels and

functions of the organization and especially from top management

2
ISO 50001 : Structure

Plan-Do-Check-Act Based System

Top Management Commitment

 Baseline Calculation of Data based on Initial review

 Identify areas of high consumption and reduce
consumption & check efficiency of equipment

 EnKPI
 Energy Consumed per unit
 Efficiency
 Identify objects with targets and
prepare action plans

3
ISO 50001 : Benefits

The main objective of the standard is to improve energy-related performance and

energy efficiency continuously and to identify energy reduction opportunities. This
systematic approach will help organizations to establish systems and processes.

Consistent energy management helps organizations to realize untapped energy

efficiency potential.

The organization will benefit from cost savings and make a significant
contribution to environmental and climate protection.

Meet Regulatory targets on RPO & Own consumption.
