Accomplishment Report
I. INTRODUCTION
With the Senate Bill No. 2992 introduced by Senator Loren Legarda which was known as the
“Mandating the Conduct of Fire, Earthquake, And Other Hazardous Phenomena Drills in
Educational Buildings/Establishments, School Buses, And Health-Care Institutions”, the
Department of Education consistently initiates the conduct of safety and preparedness in all schools
before the opening of classes. This aim to train its people in the quick and proper response to times
of fires, earthquakes, and other hazardous phenomena to reduce the risks on their lives, limbs, and
properties.
In connection to this, The Brigada Eskwela Committee of Maria Aurora Aurora Central School
in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection of Maria Aurora, teaching and non-teaching staff
launched the “FIRE SAFETY DRILL '' program. The drill includes practice and instruction
concerning the location, use and operation of emergency exits, fire escapes, doors and fire
extinguishers and other facilities provided for such purpose in buildings as well as the proper
evacuation of buildings by persons in the event of fires. Teachers and personnel were directed and
trained on how to assist students in the evacuation of a building in times of fire. They have also
been equipped on the use of fire extinguishers and on how to put out a flaring gas tank, and some
burning materials or even human clothes.
Furthermore, the campaign was made possible by the Maria Aurora Central School Principal
III, Mrs. Gliceria C. Geneta together with the Bureau of Fire Protection of Maria Aurora in person of
FO3 Nachi-Yen L. Valdez, FO1 Bryan A. Cayat, FO1 Darryle Jorge H. Viloria, FO1 Aldrin M.

without a doubt for this crucial project.

The “FIRE SAFETY DRILL” targets to ensure the safety of students during a fire emergency, it
is critical for schools to establish a simple, step-by-step evacuation plan that explains to every
student, even the primary what to do during a fire. With fire being the secondary hazard among
major disasters, the Department of Education (DepEd) continues to push for initiatives and
programs that would help prepare schools, learners, and teachers when such incidents occur.
Through DepEd’s Fire Safety and Awareness Program, which was strengthened by Department
Order No. 28, s. 2016, schools are already enjoined to develop their own fire safety plans, facilitate
BFP safety inspections, and conduct quarterly fire drills and fire safety lectures, among others.
