INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:
Answer All Questions on Auto CAD. The folder named “SECTIONING &
ASSEMBLY ASSIGNMENT” contains two files named QUESTION 1 and PULLEY
ASSEMBLY PARTS with instructions. These two files are your answer sheets, but
you will need to download an A4 template for other answer. You now have to
complete your drawings on these sheets. By using a text height of 5mm, ensure to
add your surname initial & student number to each drawing sheet. Submit all SIX
drawing sheets at the same time to Blackboard in the same folder where you found
the test. SAVE YOUR WORK REGULARLY. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
CAREFULLY. DO NOT CHANGE THE NAMES OF THE FILES

Question 1
FIGURE 1, shows a front view and a right view of a Shaft Bracket in third-angle
orthographic projection.
Draw, to scale 1:1 the following views in third-angle orthographic projection by using
a hatching scale of 1.0:
Right-Hand Side View - Is the correct view displayed? Is the geometry correct? 8
Are all necessary lines deleted or changed?
Top View - Is the correct view displayed? Is the geometry correct? Are all 10
unnecessary lines deleted or changed? Are all necessary line types changed?
Do they conform to Third Angle Projection?
Hatching - Is the correct hatch pattern used? Is the hatching done correctly? Is 6
the hatching scale as requested? Is the correct hatch layer used?
Front View – If the Front View is not shown 5 marks will be deducted.
Cutting Planes – Evidence of cutting planes? 5
Symbol and Scale – Is the correct projection symbol shown? Is the drawing 2
scale correctly placed?

Question 2
You have been tasked to make a drawing pack using the parts drawn in drawing
number BLV-A2-002. Some of these parts will have to be manufactured and others
will be outsourced from hardware stores.
You are required to model an assembly showing two sectioned views. Insert balloons
and parts list to it. Make sure your balloons are 10mm in diameter with a centered
text with text height of 5mm. Insert the correct information and symbol.
• Item 1: Frame, is to be manufactured from stainless steel (SS) and must be
represented with a scale of 1:2.
• Item 2: Pulley, is Cast Iron (CI) and is to be bought at BRIGHTS hardware
• Item 3: Shaft, is made from Cast Iron, it is to be manufactured and should be
represented as a scale of 2:1.
• Both item 4 and item 5 are to be manufactured from Brass (Br) and should be
shown as scale of 2:1.
• Item 6 and item 7 are made from stainless steel and should be bought from
BOLT IT INDUSTRIAL FASTERNERS.
• You will have to make sure you save all these parts by their names.

Detail Drawings – Is all information displayed correctly for each individual drawing?

No marks will be awarded for an incomplete detail drawing, thus include all
dimensions, neither will any marks be awarded for drawings not scaled correctly.
