I am Jennifer M. Navarroza of BSE-4E Math and today I’m going to present my research
manuscript entitled “Mastery Level on Prerequisite Competencies to Readiness in College
Calculus. ”

The prerequisite for Calculus is to have an overall comfort with algebra, geometry, and
trigonometry. After all, each new topic in math builds on previous topics, which is why mastery
at each stage is so important. This study determined the relationship between the perceived
mastery level on prerequisite competencies to readiness in College Calculus among the
freshmen mathematics major. The researcher used quantitative approach to determine
students’ perceived level of mastery and their readiness in College Calculus. This study was
done at the University of Southern Mindanao-Kidapawan City Campus. Respondents of this
study are enrolled students of A.Y 2021-2022 from BSE Mathematics Freshmen. The instrument
utilized in this study is an adopted questionnaire from various authors. The researcher used
complete enumeration technique in identifying the respondents who are the source of
information and data needed in the study. The results revealed that the perceived mastery of
students in prerequisite competencies is approaching mastery and the readiness of students in
College Calculus is approaching readiness. It is further revealed that there is a significant
relationship between the perceived level of the mastery on the prerequisite competencies and
the readiness in College Calculus among the students.
