TAT TRANSCRPTION AND ANALYSIS

First card

I feel this guy is in a class, he is gone for his music class, but it seems like he really does not want to
pursue music or maybe this instrument per se, but may be parents have forced him to attend these
music lessons but according to me, he is very conflicted on whether he should pursue this field or
not. At the end, I don’t think he will be able to what he really wants to because of the societal
pressure around him and parental pressure as well.

Second card

So this is basically a village where in this picture we can see different characters at the same time,
there is this guy who is working with his cows and ploughing the field. Then we can also see this guy
and this woman and I guess they both are single and they both are flirting so something like that is
going on and he is also fishing, I can see a rod. Then there is also this old lady, and this girl maybe her
grandchild and she must be telling her all sort of stories in the agricultural field that she done in her
times. There is also this old lady which seems very wicked to me because she is looking at this old
lady telling her granddaughter about her past time stories. The end I see that, all these people
continue with their lives normally and nothing much changes in their lives.

Third card

“This one’s weird”. I guess this picture is based in the old time where these people used to get like
their portraits done. This old woman is a widow and her this is her only daughter who is left in her
life. They both are getting their portraits done and this daughter really does not know how to pose
because she is not looking straight and she is also trying to convince her daughter to look up and
pose for the photo. And this picture also depicts that these two ladies are living a very sad life maybe
because she doesn’t have a husband and this picture according to me is based in the olden times,
and you always have to have that patriarchal figure for you to sustain yourself. According to me after
this, I feel like both the mother and daughter would go home after the portrait is done, maybe like
continue to live under to power of other males in the family and in poor conditions and that’s all I
guess.

Fourth card

Okay, so according to me, this picture is set up in a domestic household, where this male figure is the
head of the family and this female, she is younger to him. And maybe she is his sons’s wife or
daughter in law, something is there, but definitely younger to her because he is having this cloth
wrapped around his body. According to me, they are having a conversation where he is probably
scolding her about what she made have done wrong somewhere, because the expressions on the
girl’s face are showing a lot of sorrow and guilt. At the end, I feel like because he still remains as the
fatherly figure, he scolds her and goes away.

Am I allowed to talk about another story?

Another story on the side of this that’s comes to my mind is that he is asserting his male dominance
on her sexually because there is no one else in the picture. Because her body language looks very
submissive over here and he seems very authoritative and maybe it has a very sexual aspect over
here. Here, I think it ends like in a way because I can see there is a sexual tension between the two,
so maybe he molests her or does something bad sexually and then just goes away

Fifth card

According to me, this again set up in a domestic household, where this guy is very young with this
woman. And maybe this woman is his grandmother or mother because of her hair and the way her
sari is draped. I guess, secondly , what may have led to this incident must be that this lady must be
trying to stop him from doing an activity or from going out and this boy reverted in a very aggressive
and violent way. And I do not why but I’m getting a feel that this lady is a widow and because he is
very authoritative and dominant in this picture, at the end, he goes away and this woman is left
crying in the house.

Sixth card

Okay so, according to me, what is going on here, is that this picture is drawn by one of the person’s
who is sitting on the banks of the river and painting this picture because it seems so still and there is
no any movement in this picture, because it really seems like a painting to me. I think the person
who drew this picture is having a really bad day and wants to skip on life and he really is into
painting and sketching, so he has come on the banks of this river to draw. And then, he goes back
home and lives his life normally.

Seventh card

So, this picture, I guess this is very straightforward. This maybe a brothel, but no I don’t think so it
can’t be a brothel. This is this lady’s home and this lady is a widow (the lady hugging the guy), and
this lady who is here at the window, she is his wife and she is maybe spying on him and she has
caught him cheating on her and this lady who is a widow, can be seen as madly in love with this man,
I don’t know why, I get this vibe because of the way she is looking at him. And this guy, is simply
playing around with two girls and living his life to the fullest. I guess after this, because it is a very old
set up, when he goes back home, I don’t think his wife will have the guts to confront him, and after
sometime when the wife get’s fed up of him, she confronts him and leaves this house. But I don’t
think that is also possible because this male figure seems very dominating and authoritative and may
fight her and she continues to live under his torture.

Eighth card

Okay, so how we have like studied in our history books, there used to be this ‘Devadas’s system’ that
has existed. I guess this is a very secluded region of the village, and it seems very creepy to m. I guess
this lady over here, she is a ‘devadasi,’ and she has been thrown out of a group due to some reasons
and she is just here lying down on the stairs just to seek refuge in this mysterious place which I also
think is a temple sort of a thing, but it seems too creepy to be a temple, but I feel this lady was
thrown out of the ‘Devadasi group’ and she is here, because of the vibes these banyan tree branches
are giving me, that’s why.

Or also this place, could also be a brothel where this lady is thrown out of and she is just begging
someone to keep her because this is the only source of income that she has. At the I guess, she will
eventually go away because this picture does not shows us any hope for that matter, so she will just
go.

Ninth card

Okay, this is a bedroom scene, where this guy is having an extra marital affair with this lady that is
lying on the bed. This lady is a prostitute and he is just using the services because he is wearing
clothes and she is lying here naked over here and he is now going away. What I feel is that this lady
is trying to stop him, because may be she has some attachments for him, but he eventually goes way
because he has another life to live. Basically at the end, he goes away.

Tenth card

This seems to be a huge fort sort of a thing, where this young boy has climbed up and he is just
sitting on this window and singing a song maybe and is very distressed about his life and climbing up
walls is the only thing that gives him pleasure and he is very young, that’s what I have observed.
After spending a few hours over here, he just goes back to him house and goes his normal work,
school stuff and everything.

Blank card

According to me, just like the earlier picture, there is a guy sitting on the fort he climbed up and he is
sitting on this window, he is very distressed about his life and the only thing that gives him relief is a
painting and he draws a beautiful picture of a river bank with a nice boat and green trees beside it.
After the draws this picture, he probably throws it away because this is not the thing that this guy
can pursue because of the societal pressures around him, because a guy has to do all the manly
stuff, so he goes away, back to his life and lives an ordinary life and never pursues his passion of art
that he has.
