Legal Bases in Physical Education


•1987 Philippine Constitution
The 1987 Constitution is representative of democracy that give as a rights.
- Under the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines in the Article XIV, Section 19.
“The state shall promote Physical Education and encourage sports program league
competition, the amateur sports including training for international competition to foster self-
discipline, teamwork and excellence for the development of a health and alert citizenry. “
As stated in the legal provision they encourage the development of health communities to
promote Physical Education. After they promote they studied in the Presidential Decree No.6 is
one of the educational objective in Department of Education is to encourage to give some
information like textbook or any material that give information about physical education.
•Basic Physical Education in College
- According to Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS) Order No. 58, series of
1960 that Physical Education subject is given to all freshmen and sophomores in the first
four semester of their college.
•Republic Act No. 5708
An Act Providing for the Promotion and Financing of an Integrated Physical Education and
Sports Development Program for the Schools in the Philippine.

Definition of Physical Education


According to Miriam Webster physical education is instruction in the development and care of
the body ranging from simple calisthenics exercise to a course of study providing training in
hygiene, gymnastics, And the performance and management of athletic games.
Physical Education is “ Education through physical. “ With the help of this physical education
the student is become healthy inside and out. It gives a positive effect to the student.

Brief History
Physical Education is start on 1820 when school focused of gymnastics, hygiene training and
care and development of human body. The year 1950, over 400 institutes had introduce the
major physical education. On 1970 the Federal Education Act that allowed women from high
school and college to compete in athletic competition. Sex-based discrimination is enter at this
point.
Physical Education in the Philippines during Pre-Spanish Period. The Negritos or Aetas are doing
hunting. By hunting they run, leap, jump and climb. Favorite fast time usually a Ceremonial
Dances event during Santa Cruzan where the people ate,drank, sang and dance. The Ateneo De
Mumicipal De Manila in 1863 in royal decree established a Normal School for Men in the City of
Manila, and Superior Normal School for Women the physical education is not included in the
curriculum. But because of in 1893 the Superior Normal School for Men Teachers (Normal
School for Men) included gymnastics in the curriculum.

Aspect and Objective of Physical Education

✓Attainment of knowledge of proper health procedure as related to Physical exercise
