Describe the contents and presentation of a transport system of interest.

My transport system of interest is the railway transport because it is fast and many
commuters can use this system. It can also be a solution for traffic congestion because when
many people will use this system of transport there will be few cars in the roads. Railway
system exist in Metro Manila as LRT or the Light Rail Transport and MRT or the Metro Rapid
Transit. These transits can carry 400,00 to 579 passengers daily. This system is operated by
the government under a build-lease-transfer agreement.

How are conceptual frameworks developed prior creation of transportation models? (20
points)

Conceptual frameworks are developed in the creation of transportation models by

considering the precision and accuracy required, decision-making context, level of detail,
availability of suitable data, state of the art in modelling, resources available for the study,
data processing requirements, level of training and skills of the analysis an modelling some
perspective and scope where a planner will select the best transportation model. With
parameters the planner can best decide the best model to be used in order to have a better
transportation model. The scope than can be considered is the location, demand,
performance, supply, cost and production.

Where does the majority of the transport problems in the Philippines occur and why? (20
points)

I think the majority of the transport problems here in the Philippines is in Metro Manila.
Even they have the mass transit, one of their major problems is still in the traffic congestion
as we always hear and see in the news. The population in Metro manila is high and the space
there is small because it is really crowded. Even if the commuter’s destination is near the
travel time will be high because of the traffic. I recently watched a TV news where a person
needs to wake up early to ride and not be late for work because there are a lot of people are
also going to their work or their destination.
Once alternatives are generated in the urban transport planning process, how are they
evaluated in order to pick the best choice for a project? (20 points)

In order to pick the best choice for a project, once alternatives are generated in the urban
transport planning process, they are evaluated in terms of the project time if it is a short-term
or a long-range project. Once it is determined you can now set your goals and objectives to
identify if there are some deficiencies or there will be some improvements to be implemented
to the project. Next is the Inventory of Existing Travel and Facilities. This part is where the
data gathered will be described accordingly. Generation of alternatives. When you are
planning for a project, there must be alternatives in case of some problem that may come up
within the process. Lastly the Estimation of project cost and travel demands this will help you
decide if this cost is right for this kind of project.

Why do some transport solutions generated by models and planners never get to be
implemented? (20 points)

Some transport solutions generated by models and planners never get implemented
because it is not easy to implement these solutions. These solutions are not able to be
supported by the Local Government Unit and there a lack in the budget. There are lot of
process to go through and lot of considerations to the model. It needs to be presented and to
be defended for some panels or expert in transportation before it will be implemented. Other
reasons is that there is a lock of materials for the proposed solution and it is not readily
available in the location of the planner.
