Preface

We live in a period of fast development and abundance, and having and owning are some of the

primary drivers of today’s society. But all this comes at a big price. The environment is damaged

and communities are suffering. Pollution and health risks for both humans and wild life are

rapidly increasing. On a personal level, it seems like there is not much we can do if we really

want to improve matters. To us, gave us frustration but at the same time motivated us to come up

with this idea and hopefully make things a bit better.

First of all, we would like to thank our professor for giving us the opportunity to create this

research with the freedom of choosing our own topic. Because of this freedom, we are able to

come up with this idea on how to help solve the problems we are currently facing in our

communities.

Furthermore, we would like to express our appreciation to Ms. Lyanne Joy De Vera for helping

us with the minor details that we have overlooked in our research paper and also for the ideas she

came up to help us complete this research.

Lastly, to our dear parents and friends, thank you for your endless support and you’re always

welcoming us home.
Body

DrainageBin Machine is an initiative project that aims to give an alternative solution to

flooding in the cities. It is a type of cleaning machine that filters solid waste from the body of

water. The machine acts as a huge filter and will be put down in different points of drainage

system around the city, most specifically targeting places where flooding occurs frequently

during the rainy season. Also, the machine is designed to be cost-efficient and self-sustaining,

the DrainageBin not only acts as a filter but it also cleans its filters. The debris caught in its filter

system will be automatically put aside inside its storage, that way maintenance for the filtering

system will be less frequent and will lessen the machines’ monthly cost. The researcher’s target

is to ask the government its approval and provide the necessary fundings to support this project.

If accepted, this project will be implemented with the help of the Department of Science and

Technology (DOST) and other sectors such as National Integrated Research Agenda (NIBRA),

the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research Development

(PCIEERD-DOST) and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Administration

(PAGASA). The objective of this paper is to propose the mechanical process of DrainageBin and

its capabilities if the project passed the government evaluation.
