-Mathematics in modern world-

Math Picture slide

So when we say Math, math is all around us, in
everything we do and It is the building block in our daily
lives…..
We can apply math in our everyday lives,,,, For example,
if your mom gave you 100 pesos as a school allowance
and your household is 10 kilometers from the school, you
must budget your allowance for transportation and food.
So, you'll need to budget 40 pesos for transportation to
school, back and forth, with the remaining balance going
to your lunch or snacks. So, if you're not sure how to
compute. There is a good chance that you will run out of
money.
So lets proceed
-We can observe math in different aspects in our lives
-For example when we say music, flowers, animals,
dance, and arts…..so these are the observable patterns of
the following:
1st picture. Is that Mathematics is observable in guitar
because when a string is plucked and vibrates in a
particular rate which is the frequency and it is measured
in hertz, so in order to find the frequency is to first
measure the wavelength, and thickness of the string.
2nd picture. Math can also be observed in flowers, like
this for example…its numbers of petals can be associated
to Fibonacci Sequence…. 1 petal, 2 petals, 3 petals, 5
petals, and so on, and if you add 1+2 petals is equals to 3
petals, and if you add 3+5 petals is equal to 8 petals.
Andddd if you add 5+8 petals is equal to 13 petals.
3rd picture is an animal. So as you can see the dog is
taking the call of nature,,, it looks funny, but its
natural,,,and as you look closer, you can observe the
Fibonacci spiral in it.

4th picture is dance. We can observe the beautiful portion

and balance in it, it represents symmetry, which is mirror
image or reflection

So the 5th picture is what we call an art. So in this art we

can simply observe some of the geometric shapes which
is Triangle, circle and rectangle just by looking at it.

So lets focus on our main topic which is DANCE:

-Dancing has a lot of types

For example, when we say dancing, it can be:
 Ballet.
 Ballroom.
 Contemporary.
 Hip Hop.
 Jazz.
 Tap Dance.
 Folk Dance.
 Irish Dance.
And we only chose 3 of these dances to study or identify
how mathematics is involve or observed in this dances :
The first one is Hip- Hop
Owen
Hip-hop….(pause for 3 seconds) When we watch a
hiphop dance, we may observe several patterns that may
represent mathematics(pause for 2 seconds)For
example: Counting and Formation, which is Geometric
Shapes are observable in formation….
Counting, it’s because all music has some sort of beat,
even though different cultures create and employ
different kinds of music to dance to. The 8-count
represents this idea of beat in contemporary Hip-Hop.
A new 8 count starts after every 8 counts, and so on,
creating sentences that tie together into paragraphs and
presenting a story through the music.
For example: 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and
8 and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8
(watch this youtube link 1:22 on how to read this
example written above)

Patrick
In HIP-HOP, they usually form different formations in
order to entertain the audience, and sometimes they
surprisingly form different shapes like for example,
triangle and circle, and these 2 shapes is considered to be
a geometric shapes, moving forward, During their
performances, the dancers measure their distances
between one another and the objects. The different size
or shape of the space they perform in even prompts
them to adjust their distances. Dancers can display both
their individual technique and their group cohesion
during formation exercises.

So lets proceed to the next dance which is Folk Dance,
(pause for 3 seconds) In folk dance, we observed 2
patterns which is count pattern and formation pattern.
Count pattern, it’s because in dancing counting is a must
and in order for the performer to hit the timing,
especially in tinikling dance where timing is very essential
because if you lose the timing or if you will not be
attentive enough, the two colliding bamboos will crush
your feet.
Like for this example the counting is by threes
1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1
2,3,1,2,3, and so on

( ang ka paspas sa pag basa anang 123 kay I refer sa kani
nga video,,,, i timing siya sa beat, didto pag sugod ug ihap
sa 00:20 seconds sa vid kay didto ko mag kuhag clip)
Vincent
So, the body’s formation is the next predictable pattern
in folk dance. When dancing our body forms into
different shapes without noticing it. Like what the girls
are doing in these pictures.
The first picture clearly shows the tringle shape, and the
2nd picture shows rectangle, and last but not the least,
third picture which shows oval, and these mentioned
shapes are also considered as geometric shapes.

So lets go back to folk dance, and I have an example here

of some geometric shapes that can be found on
Pandango sa Ilaw folk dance.
The first one is rectangle,
the second one is parallelogram
and the third one is a triangle

(3:18(parallelogram) , 2:08( Rectangle) , 2:02 (Triangle)

So, the last dance that we chose as a group is what we
call ballet. (pause for 3 seconds) And Ballet also is
somewhat related to math because it also has some of
the observable patterns that represents mathematics.
Like Symmetrical Pattern and Asymmetrical Pattern.
In ballet, symmetrical patterns can be seen, like for this
illustration. (pause 3 seconds) We can see the meaning of
symmetrical just by looking at this pictures. (pause 2
seconds) So symmetrical pattern means that the
corresponding body parts on both sides of a centered
dividing line are in the same position to each other
forming a balanced figure from both sides.

Jannah
So Moving away from symmetry because in ballet there’s
also asymmetrical. (pause for 3 seconds) An asymmetric
connection in discrete mathematics is the exact opposite
of a symmetric relation. In addition, Asymmetrical dance
is one of the noticeable patterns in ballet. As we can see
in these pictures the ballet dancers fail to correspond to
one another in shape, size, or arrangement; lacking
symmetry.
