which is now known as Barangay Taculing. For sentimental reasons, he named his
newly acquired property Taculin, in memory of his ship, Taculin. In this land area,
wild grapes, which the natives called “tuling”. Because of this, the people called this
place Taculing that was before the ex-ship captain bought it. The local people began
calling the place Taculin or Taculing. The peculiar connection in the place’s
designated and former name may be having been destiny or coincidence.
To eliminate the confusion and indifference to the wishes of the people, the
Barangay Council of 1964-1968 passed a resolution officially calling the place
Barangay Taculing. The resolution was a motion Council Ivan Solidum duly
seconded by Council Rodolfo Aspan.
The offices of the City Mayor, City Council, City Superintendent of School, City

you should be proud of? (5 points)

- 3 distinct features/uniqueness of my locality that I am proud of:

I. Barangay Taculing is very good in implementing the safety of the

community, because safety is an essential feature of a good community. But
perceptions of safety do not always correlate with crime statistics. For
instance, recent media coverage of a felony may negatively sway feelings of
security.
II. Best thing about Barangay Taculing is that we are united by concrete
goals or the pursuit of mutually beneficial outcomes. We people of Barangay
Taculing shares a common objective, such as acquiring new possessions or
making a profit in way we can help each other.
III. Barangay Taculing centralizes in developing a positive community, it is a
comfort among the people when it comes to speaking their minds and
expressing what is important to them. Anyone who feel encouraged to give
input about an issue and who feel heard when they speak their minds are
more likely to feel connected to the community. Further, successful

majority and are open to hearing these

3. Discuss the significance of having in-depth knowledge of one’s local history and
cultural heritage. Cite at least 3. (5 points)

- In preserving our heritage, we preserve our identity.

o Heritage sites are arguably the physical component of a city’s identity. The
lived-in architecture, the strategic locations and the uses of these buildings
reveal unique stories telling of how our city came to be and can offer
predictions of where it might be going. These features add character and
beauty to our city, fostering a sense of home and community, and serving as
a reminder to each of us that our city’s history belongs to all of us together.
Just as these magnificent buildings have been passed down to us, we must
preserve them for future generations.
- Heritage sites circulate wealth within the local economy.
o Older buildings are often expensive to maintain due the laborious tasks and
custom craftsmanship involved with reviving old features. However, this less-
than-ideal situation creates an opportunity to stimulate the economy, creating
new jobs for contractors, architects, and artisans within the local community.
Heritage designations and designated heritage districts have also
demonstrated positive economic correlations with real estate prices in studies
completed all over the world. Almost always, official recognition results in the
increased value of the property at the time of sale, in comparison to non-
designated properties of otherwise similar value.
- Local heritage preservation is part of something bigger.
o Like the advancement of physical sciences, heritage preservation is part of a
greater universal cause. Heritage preservation brings all kinds of people of
different skill sets and academic disciplines together as a unified front for a
very noble cause.

- After reflecting in making this assessment, I realize that in order to make history
interesting toe, I have to answer one important question. Why study Philippine history? As a
student, what is its relevance to me. After careful reflection I was able to come up with an
answer. I should learn about history because it is the story of my people. If I am to
understand the present then I must understand the past. I realize that there are many
problems in Philippine history that keep on surfacing. It is as if we never learn from our
mistakes.
Another reason why we should learn Philippine history is that, history is a story. Like in
any other story, it is filled with action, danger, triumphs and defeats. I realize that history
should be enjoyed by everyone.
Lastly, we should study Philippine history because of the many values that we can derive
from it. Values and traits which were exemplified by the many heroes that fought for our
independence. It is the responsibility of Filipino to learn about, teach and appreciate history.
History is all around us, we only have to open our minds and heart to it.
