Soiled Gloves Removal


Title
Objective: To know the steps of how to properly remove your soiled gloves, which is an essential
practice in medical technology as we handle specimens that need special care.
Principle: Wearing gloves help in protecting you against contact with hazardous and infectious
materials. However, gloves can also be a hazard for spreading infectious materials to yourself, other
people or environment once it is contaminated or used. Therefore, the way you use gloves can influence
the risk of disease transmission, especially in healthcare setting.
Sample:
Equipment and materials: Pen, pencil, bond paper
Reagent used: None
Procedure:
1. Grasp the gloves to be removed on the palm side of your hand just below the cuff, being careful not
to touch bare skin on your wrist.
2. Pull the glove off by rolling it inside out. As you continue to roll up with your fingers of the gloved
hand, place the two fingers of your bare hand inside the cuff of the second glove.
3. Pull the second glove off turning it inside out over the first glove.
4. Touching only the inside surface of the glove removed in step 3, dispose the gloves properly.

 The exercise involves illustrating the procedures of how we could properly dispose and remove our
gloves that we already used or are already soiled. We need to do this practice as a habit to prevent
contamination, risk of infection, and spread of harmful germs.

 Why is it important to remove soiled

 Wearing gloves help in
protecting our health and of the
patient we are taking care of.
However, once the gloves are
already used, they can spread
germs and viruses between
people and to surfaces they
come into contact with.
Therefore, it is important to
practice how to properly dispose
and remove soiled or used gloves.

 When should gloves be removed?


 Aforementioned above, gloves must be removed once it is already used. It is important to
remove gloves once it made contact to different chemicals, specimens, or several hazardous
objects. Removing gloves must be done to prevent spread of bacteria and germs.

 What is the participation of OSHA in removal of gloves protocol?


 The Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA requires employers to protect
their employees from workplace hazards that can cause injuries. Thus, employers must provide
personal protective equipment to their employees and ensure its use and proper disposal in
the workplace.
