No Vaccine,

No Classes?
The Philippines were infected with the COVID-19 virus, a
severe form of coronavirus, this year. This disease produces
a wide range of symptoms, including fever, muscle aches
and pains, headache, loss of appetite, and sore throat. It
also has a 15% mortality rate, which is why President
Duterte wanted a vaccine developed before classes resumed
in the Philippines. Should we postpone classes during
COVID 19?
On the plus side, the Philippine government should
postpone classes during COVID 19.
The first reason the government should postpone classes is
to help prevent the spread of this disease so that a vaccine
can be obtained before the start of the school year. This is
due to the fact that when people go to their classes, they
will be in close proximity and may spread the virus to more
people. This would make developing a vaccine more
difficult because finding hosts would be difficult if they
were all spreading disease. The second reason the
government should postpone classes is to keep students
calm and relaxed. Many students experience anxiety and
stress when they must attend school while ill. This is risky
because it may aggravate their symptoms and distract them
from their studies.
There are numerous other reasons why the government
should postpone classes, but these are the most important.
On the negative side, the government should not postpone
classes during COVID 19. The main reason why the
government should not postpone classes is that people
might interpret it as a sign of weakness and become overly
reliant on it. People would be more motivated to go to
school and spread this virus if they knew they would miss
out on an education. The second disadvantage is that
students who have enough time to seek medical attention
will be able to seek evacuation, which would not be
possible if classes were canceled.
Furthermore, we are unable to do so because the majority
of the students are uneducated. What would happen if the
classes were canceled?
However, this is difficult for modular learners because
PRDD announced a new normal that is not really
beneficial to them. They are answering their modules
without assistance because they are learning without a
teacher. As a g10 student of modular learning, I can say
that we are not answering our modules to learn, but to
pass.
As a year 2021-2022 online learner, I can say that online
classes are far superior to modulars because someone is
teaching and guiding us. However, this is not ideal because
the internet and time are our adversaries.
And one of our teachers at Bulihan Integrated National
High School told us that the new grade 7 students are the
most affected by this type of learning. Because some of
them are having mental breakdowns as a result of
returning to school and failing because they are not
learning anything.
And all I can say is that I do not agree with canceling f2f
schooling because that is all we need to learn.
