1. What is the name and CMO No.

for Med Tech Education that started last 2017?

It is CMO No. 13 series of 2017 (Policies, Standards, and Guidelines for the Bachelor of Science in
Medical Technology/ Medical Laboratory Science program). The Commission issues this for
institutions that are administering the program. The minimal course offerings (general education
core courses, professional courses with assigned units, program goals, program outputs, and
performance indicators) for the BSMT/BSMLS program are included in the CMO. In addition, the
K–12 Curriculum complies with this new CMO.

2. Research and list down 10 different general and professional subjects of Medical Technology
curriculum and give the nature of each course.

General subjects of Medical Technology Curriculum

 Understanding the Self – The nature of identity and the causes and variables that
influence the formation and preservation of personal identity are topics covered in this
course. In addition, many strategies to comply with the mandate to Know Oneself have
been developed.
 Readings in Philippine History – This course critically examines Philippine history from
various angles using a few original sources. Primary materials that explain significant
turning events in Philippine history from prehistoric times to the present and
communicate different perspectives will be given priority.
 The Contemporary World – This course introduces students to the modern world by
looking at the complex globalization phenomena. It studies the economic, social,
political, technical, and other changes that have increased awareness of the
interconnection of people and places around the world using various social science
disciplines. The course summarizes the effective global governance, development, and
sustainability discussions toward that goal. In addition to introducing students to
cultures outside of the Philippines, this program aims to instill a feeling of global
citizenship and ethical responsibility.
 Mathematics in the Modern World – The nature of mathematics, its understanding of
its intellectual, practical, and aesthetic components, and the use of mathematical tools
in daily life are all topics covered in this course.
 Purposive Communication – Writing, speaking, and presenting for varied audiences and
objectives are all parts of purposive communication. Through multimodal tasks that give
individuals opportunities to communicate effectively and appropriately to a
multicultural audience in a local or global context, Purposive Communication is a three-
unit course that develops students' communicative competence and heightens their
cultural and intercultural awareness.
 The Life and Works of Rizal – This course, required by Republic Act 1425, examines José
Rizal, the nation's national hero, and his life and writings. The subjects covered include
Rizal's life and writings, especially the books Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, as
well as some of his essays and correspondence.
 Science, Technology, and Society – Science, Technology, and Society (STS) is an
interdisciplinary field that examines the circumstances surrounding the creation,
dissemination, and use of technological systems and the effects these actions have on
various social groups.
 Art Appreciation – To analyze and appreciate art on a deeper level, art appreciation
carefully examines how excellence is established and produced by artists. This course
focuses on how and why each subject adds to the value of an artwork and equips
students with the skills needed to do so. The relevance of the background and
perspective of artists, together with the elements and concepts of art, are first
explained to students. The course then discusses various eras in the history of art,
different artistic approaches, and how to study and assess works of art.
 Ethics – In this course, theories regarding the nature and underpinnings of moral
judgments are introduced, along with applications to current ethical challenges. Moral
theories are highlighted, including consequentialism, deontology, and virtue ethics.
 World Literature – This course allows students to learn at least two literary and cultural
traditions studied in their original languages or translation.

Professional subjects of Medical Technology Curriculum

 Principles of Medical Laboratory Science 1: Introduction to Medical Laboratory

Science, Laboratory Safety, and Waste Management – The fundamental ideas and
principles of the medical technology/medical laboratory science profession are covered
in this course. This curriculum emphasizes professional practice, clinical laboratories,
ongoing professional development, biosafety procedures, and waste management.
 Principles of Medical Laboratory Science 2: Clinical Laboratory Assistance and
Phlebotomy – The concepts and guiding principles of the many assays carried out in the
clinical laboratory are included in clinical laboratory assistance. The fundamental ideas,
guiding principles, and practical applications of the accepted practices in blood
collection, processing, and transportation are covered by phlebotomy. Additionally, it
entails researching pre-, during, and post-analytical factors that influence the
dependability of test results.
 Community and Public Health for MT/MLS – The fundamentals of community health,
such as human ecology, demography, and epidemiology, will be studied in this course.
In addition, it focuses on promoting community, public, and environmental health,
student immersion, and resident engagement.
 Cytogenetics – The main topics of this course are the concepts and principles of heredity
and inheritance, such as genetic phenomena, sex determination, and genetic
abnormalities with inherited causes. Additionally, it covers chromosomal and nucleic
acid anomalies and hereditary diseases (DNA and RNA). Finally, examining nucleic acids
and their use in medical research are highlighted.
 Human Histology – This course studies the principles of cells, tissues, and organs,
focusing on microscopic structures, traits, distinctions, and functions. The main focus of
this course's laboratory is the microscopic identification and classification of the cells
that make up the body's systems.
 Histopathologic Techniques with Cytology – The fundamental ideas and principles of
disease processes, etiology, and the development of anatomical and microscopic
alterations brought on by the disease process are all covered in this course. In addition,
it covers the histopathologic procedures required for preparing tissue samples obtained
by surgery, biopsy, or autopsy for macroscopic and microscopic investigations for
diagnostic reasons. The following are some of the exams that students take in a lab at
their school as part of the course's laboratory component:
o Tissue processing
o Cutting of processed tissue
o Staining
o Mounting of stained tissue for microscopic examination
o Performing biosafety and waste management
 Clinical Bacteriology – Studying bacteria's physiology, morphology, and function in
infection and immunity is the focus of this course. Its focus is on specimen gathering,
bacterial isolation, and bacterial identification. Testing for antimicrobial susceptibility
and the emergence of antimicrobial drug resistance is also covered. The following are
some of the processes and tests that students carry out in a school-based laboratory as
part of the course's laboratory component:
o Preparation of culture media
o Collection of specimen
o Preparation of bacterial smear
o Staining of smear
o Inoculation of specimen on culture media
o Characterization of colonies of bacteria growing in culture media
o Performing different biochemical tests for identification of bacteria
o Biosafety and waste management
o Quality assurance and quality control
o Antimicrobial susceptibility testing
 Clinical Parasitology – The study of animal parasites in humans and their relevance to
national medicine are the subjects of this course. Focus is placed on pathophysiology,
epidemiology, life cycle, prevention, and control, as well as identifying ova and adult
worms and other forms found in specimens for diagnostic purposes. The following are
some of the processes and tests that students carry out in a school-based laboratory as
part of the course's laboratory component:
o Identification of diagnostic characteristics in various groups of parasites harmful
to humans at the microscopic level (e.g., nematodes, trematodes, cestodes,
protozoa, and plasmodium, among others)
o Different techniques for making smears for microscopic examination (e.g., direct
fecal smear, Kato-Katz, among others)
 Immunohematology and Blood Bank – The concepts of heredity, characterization, and
laboratory identification of red blood cell antigens and related antibodies are covered in
this course. It also discusses how these antigens and antibodies are used in transfusion
medicine and the investigation of transfusion responses. The following are some of the
processes and tests that students carry out in a school-based laboratory as part of the
course's laboratory component:
o ABO and Rh typing
o Coombs test (direct and indirect Coombs)
o Blood donation process
o Compatibility testing
o Transfusion reaction work-up
o Preparation of RBC suspension
 Mycology and Virology – The study of fungi and viruses as disease-causing agents is
covered in this course, with a focus on epidemiology, laboratory characterization, and
identification, as well as prevention and control.
