EXERCISE 10.

2
1ST PICTURE WHITE MAN’S BURDEN
I can say that the propaganda value of this photograph is misleading. Americans
being more advanced to technology is using that advantage to lure the minds of the native
Filipinos who were feeling inferior at that time. Since the Philippines is rich in natural
resources, the Americans will use this technological advantage to gain superiority over
the native Filipinos so they will let them farm their natural resources like gold and nickel,
and use it for their own benefits.
2ND PICTURE THE BATTLE OF BUD BAGSAK
a. For the Americans, they want to be more powerful and they will obtain this by
imposing a colonial rule on the country. Their victory signifies that they are
powerful and whoever tries to fight them will face death.
b. For the Filipinos, they will feel betrayed because some Filipinos were with the
Americans that time and they let these Filipinos to help them kill those Moros.
c. For the Moros, vengeance is more likely what they will feel because after
seeing this picture, they will surely seek for revenge to avenge their fellow
Moros who sacrificed their lives.
3RD PICTURE PLEDGE OF COOPERATION OF FILIPINOS TO THE JAPANESE
1. What would the Americans feel if they saw this picture?
The Americans will feel alarmed knowing that this pledge of cooperation
might symbolize the joining forces of the two countries against them. They will also
feel betrayal knowing that these Filipinos were once beneficiary of their help.
2. What would President Quezon would feel or say if he heard that the Filipino officials
pledged their cooperation to the Japanese invaders?
President Quezon will feel hopeless and disappointed because this might
symbolize that his people have surrendered their peace and let the Japanese take
what they have at that time.
3. At what is propaganda value of this picture to the Japanese and how will they use
it?
The propaganda will let the Japanese gain more powers over other invaders
since they have the cooperation of Filipino officials on their side. They will use this
propaganda to gain advantage over others so they can easily impose their colonial
rule in the country.
4TH PICTURE THE SURRENDERING OF THE US ARMED FORCES
1. What would be the effect of this photograph to the Filipinos?
Filipinos will start to hate the Americans and their government for reducing the
power of the Philippines to fight against the invaders and for letting the Japanese
invasion more possible.

2. How will it affect the Japanese?

The Japanese will be more confident to invade the Philippines since they know
that they are less capable of depending their land without the help of the US Armed
Forces.
3. What do you think the American people will feel?
The Americans won’t be proud knowing that their country is one of the most
powerful all over the world yet they surrendered and gave the enemy the chance to
gain more power over them.

5TH PICTURE RICH AND POOR

1. How will these evoke thoughts on: What the government had done to narrow the
gap between the rich and the poor?
I don’t think the government had done enough to narrow the gap between the
rich and the poor because it is still evident up until this day that the rich becomes richer
and the poor becomes poorer. Based on my observation, nowadays, poor ones are
still struggling to get the opportunity to enter or be acknowledge in the world of
business industry. Why? Because rich people keep on expanding their businesses to
the point that they are outnumbering the sales of small businesses owners.
Furthermore, if the government itself cannot fight corruption that is happening within
the people governing the government, there is no chance that the gap between the
rich and the poor will be narrowed. Corruption plays a big role why there are still a lot
of people suffering from extreme poverty and hunger nowadays and it is a big factor
why most of the rich people are getting richer.
2. Why have institutions such as the Church and the government allowed this
disparity of wealth to happen?
The Church and the government allowed this disparity of wealth to happen
simply because they are benefiting from it, especially from the rich ones.
We can’t deny the fact that people behind these institutions especially in
government, are the great contributors and beneficiaries of corruption.
6TH PICTURE GARBAGE AND COMMUNISTS
1. How are images like these used as propaganda by communists?
They are using these photographs to show that there is an unjust treatment in
the society wherein some people are still struggling to have access with the basic
needs like food and clothing, that they tend to collect leftover food and materials from
the garbage just to support their needs.
2. How did it attract individuals to the cause of class struggle?
It attracts them in a way that they are witnessing how unfair life is and how the
society really works especially for the poor.
