“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or
his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love,
for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite” (Nelson Mandela). “Time is
always right to do what is right” (Martin Luther King). Leaders are very unique because they can
make a change. It is extremely tough to have a social change that is why Mandela says, “It
always seems impossible until its done.” Leaders and unique people usually go to jail because of
their belief. “I have nothing to lose by standing up and following my beliefs. So I’ll go to jail, so
what? We’ve been in jail for 400 years” (Muhammad Ali) .some people think that non-violence
actions are one of the strongest weapon to have while others do not, but many, including me,
think that non-violence actions and the smartness of the leader together are better, stronger and
have huge impact on people; leaders such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela used them
effectively.
The background of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela is very interesting and
spectacular. MLK was in jail because of trumped-up charges. He talked a lot about respecting,
understanding, accepting, forgiving, and loving others no matter their colors, race, religions, or
backgrounds. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out
hate love can do that” (Martin Luther King). Mandala was in jail because of trumped-up charges
before he became an unforgettable president. He was always advising his folk to forgiving
others. As a result, MLK and Mandela did not try to revenge; they tried to make all people equal,
“I have neither given or received, nor have I tolerated others’ use of unauthorized aid”. J

Both MLK and Mandela were in jail because of similar reasons. While being in jail, they both
had not given up after many years they spent it in jail, yet they became better and stronger
people. “If I did not change how can I ask people to?” (Martin Luther King). They both were
back, and in a time that racism was all around the world. Additionally, they were great examples
for their nation. Additionally, they talked many times about forgiveness, and accepting others to
build a better country. To summarize, they emphasized the phrase better together then this
discrimination.
“A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live” (Martin Luther King). From looking to
MLK and Mandela backgrounds, everyone can see how they suffered and sacrificed to reach to
their dreams. MLK and Mandela were affected by the injustice rules, so they worked very hard
to release their folk and their country. They both faced the same problem which was injustice life
“Nonviolence is the weapon of the strong” (Betty Williams). MLK used the non-violence
action to win the revolution while Mandela used himself as an example. “I have a dream that my
four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of
their skin, but by the content of their character” (Martin Luther King). For example, MLK gave a
speech to share his ideas and information about racism, and he was supported by many. If he did
use a violence action, he would have been killed because the US government had more weapon
than he did. Clearly, if he used a violence action, he would not have been supported by many
Americans. Furthermore, he knew that the power of words is stronger and has huge effect on
people, and he took advantage of being a fantastic speaker, and used it very smartly. An example

for Mandala using himself as an example is he appoints black and white security men to show
that there is no place for the discrimination. Moreover, when he first walked to his office, many
white people were collecting their stuff to leave because they thought that Mandala came to
revenge, but he surprised them by forgiving and welcoming them to work with him. What if he
did a violence action and laid the white employees off, he would not have had a social change
and to unite his country. “To make peace with an enemy one must work with that enemy and that
enemy becomes one’s partner” (Nelson Mandela). All in all, in many times, the non-violence
actions work safely that is why MLK and Mandala emphasized to not practice violence.
Having an enormously smart leader is one of the stronger reasons to win against the enemies.
With his advantages, he can make great decisions and solve any problem smartly. For
instance, MLK used a great strategy by putting Jesus as a symbol and using Gandhi’s methods.
By this smart strategy, MLK got the Christians support. By using some Gandhi’s methods, MLK
made the change in the American social life. Apart from Mandala’s smartness, looking to have a
change by sport is another intelligent way to change the country without let them realize the
change. He asked the coach to teach the black children rugby, and the coach did so. By teaching
the children rugby, he got not only their support but also their families support. What if MLK and
Mandela were not smart enough, they would have given up after the first problem they had
faced. In short, being intelligent gives the leader the ability to win over his or her enemies by
Small changes lead to have a huge one. Apart from MLK’s and Mandala’s smartness, starting
by small changes which have big impact is a very smart way to lead the nation to change

gradually. For instance, MLK used a fantastic strategy by putting Jesus as a symbol and using
Gandhi’s methods. For example, mandala noticed that each citizen loves and cares about sport,
so he used the sport to have a social change. He supersized everybody when he was in the field
shaking hands with the players and saying each player name. With this small changings, Mandala
had altered the whole society step by step without let them recognize the small changes.
Therefore, in the end of many small steps is a great result like the huge social changes and
“There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through
the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our
desires” (Nelson Mandela). MLK and Mandala were totally unique leaders, and they won for
many reasons. Their strong believe in themselves first and in the change that they can do it
second is what made them win. In addition, they used many great strategies to get over the
difficulties. They won because of not only their extremely intelligent but also their non-violence
actions. Thus, both the non-violence actions and the smartness of the leaders are exceedingly
important.
“Today we are entering a new era for our country and its people. Today we celebrate not the
victory of a party, but a victory for all the people of South Africa” (Nelson Mandela). To sum up
by the examples that I have given, and the imagination situations that I have given, I proved that
nothing better, stronger and have huge effect on people that nonviolence actions and the
smartness of the leader. As has been mentioned, it is great to use the non-violence action to have
a social change, but it is better to have also a very intelligent leader. I learned from MLK that
“I have neither given or received, nor have I tolerated others’ use of unauthorized aid”. J

non-violence actions are a very smart and strong way to make a change and have a huge impact
on people than violence actions. Without question, there is nothing that is more than perfect;
however, in my opinion, I can say that the smartness of the leader and the non-violence actions
together are more than perfect. Therefore, no one can argue that non-violence actions and the
intelligence of leaders and his services are weak together. “We must learn to live together as
