RIZAL TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY

A prominent University recognized for its commitment to

innovative programs in addressing society’s challenges.
VISION

Prepare students to create their future in a knowledge-driven

and culturally diverse society.
MISSION
The Vision and Mission are two statements that every In-
stitution must have. In your opinion, are these statements important? Is
RTU living its mission? In what way? What do you think the University needs to
address? As its student, what is your role in fulfilling RTU’s vision?

ANSWER:
Mission and vision are evidently important and vital to every institution, compa-
ny, group or even individual. These statements have a vital role in maintaining and
directing someone towards a certain objective or goal of existence. Aiming without a
target is a picture of not establishing both.
For its over 50 years of foundation, the Rizal Technological University has al-
ready displayed a large leap of improvements and innovations to achieve its purpose.
The flexibility of the University to the continuing changes since day one up to now
increases its capability to cope and move forward living its mission. The mission is
the present objective. RTU’s present objective is to prepare students in
the near future given the setting of knowledge-driven and culturally
diverse society which is currently active amidst of the pandemic.
The institution still pursues to provide quality educa-
tion all over the country despite of the disadvantages
and uncertainties brought by the situation.
The University assures that every member of its administration and faculty are fully
equipped and prepared enough to perform their responsibilities and duties at its finest way
possible. In the same way, RTU grabs the opportunity to develop both the training centers
and research centers. With this advancement, the range of the services expands and the
students of such developments will not only be educated theoretically but will practice real
life applications which are beneficial out in the industry. Also, as the digital age arises in-
cessantly, the University efforts to utilize and explore different educational platforms
online investing on the health and safety of the students. The diverse culture which is un-
deniably present in RTU will help students to handle and manage people’s differences.

The existing society, whether online or face to face, will be a train-

ing ground of professionalism and respecting another. Surely, RTU
has its own distinctions and go after for more. Nowadays, the Uni-
versity needs to focus more on sustainable education. The online
class does have limitations and it is important for the University to
continually address the difficulties that it is facing right now and
will be facing for the following months. If the institution
manages to get through such blocks, that is the only time to
conclude the effectivity of the learning design. The process
requires cooperation between the educators and students.
As the members of the institution give full effort to impart learning, so does the
student should also give out the desire to learn. As a student of Rizal Technologi-
cal University, I am a part of its mission and of its vision. Someday in the industry,
I will be one of the representatives of its vision to address societies challenges. By
doing my part right now, I can be a help for tomorrow through applying the skills
that I will learn for the welfare of many.
The journey of Rizal Technological University surely has a long way to
go yet the possibility is limitless to the one who hungers for growth. It will
stand and will reach out for more.

M1.A1 Infographics
Today, I spent time doing activity M1.A1. The goal of
this activity is to construct a timeline in the form of in-
fographics, with relation to the topics presented in the first
part of the module. I put the title “The Development
Timeline” since it is about how atoms develop throughout
centuries together with the historical events of the Philip-
pines happening at the same time frame.

It turns out
to be this tall.
Here are some of the ideas that I included in the infographics:

465 B.C.
Leucippus and Democritus states that matter is composed of small
particles that is indivisible and incredibly small, latterly called atom.

200 B.C.
The first of several waves of Malayan settlers
arrives from South China.

1789
Antoine Lavoisier showed that water and air are not ele-
ments because it can be separated into different substances
or components. He disproves the principle of phlogiston .

1934
U.S. approves Tydings-McDuffie Act promising Philippine
independence in 1946; transition to independence begins.

M1.C1-OXIDATION NUMBER

In order for me to completely

solve the oxidation states or
oxidation number of each
element, it is important to
remember the 11 rules found
in the middle part of the
module.
Learn to solve every problem
with care and never forget to
box the final answer!

M1.A1_Balancing Chemical Equation

The key in balancing

chemical equations is to
list down all the elements
one by one. Be careful in
adding coefficients.

Electrochemistry
It’s not that
easy , dear.

Principle of Electrochemistry
Though it sounds so complicated, the
principle of electrochemistry can be de-
scribed in a very simple manner. Upon
reading the module, I search for some other
references in order for me to fully under-
stand the topic. In the video that I viewed,
the man conducted an experiment using a
magnesium ribbon and a strand of copper
wire connected to an electrochemical buzzer. When it was dipped in a tap water, there is no
sound coming out from the buzzer. But, when he starts adding hydrochloric acid little by
little, there is a definite sound. Applying this concept in a salt bridge, the two solutions or
chemicals cannot be related if a bridge does not exists. The salt bridge helps the two solu-
tions to react upon one another causing the losing and gaining of electrons, commonly
known as the REDOX reaction. To loose or to gain an electrons means it needs to move
out or to move in. When there is a movement of electron, there we produced electricity.
That’s why it was called Electrochemistry.– electricity produced through chemical reaction.
YouTube is my most commonly used
reference when it come to chemistry
lectures.

As the name suggests, it is the capture
of an electron to an electron cloud

Writing the equation of radioactivity is the same as balancing a chemical reaction. It

will be more easier to identify missing values in an equation if we are familiar with the
arrangement of elements in the periodic table. In the same manner, the number of neu-
trons and protons is useful in the prediction of what radioactivity type may occur. Ele-
ments with atomic number which is greater than or equal to 84 may undergo alpha
emission. Elements with atomic number lower than 84 but has a greater amount of
neutrons than protons may undergo beta emission. The opposite of the latter may result
in positron emission or electron capture.

Chemistry in the Environment
The Earth’s Atmosphere

Thermosphere is the next layer

where the air is very thin.
Here, we can find the aurora
and some space shuttles.

Mesosphere is the coldest place on Earth. This is where meteors

burn upon entering Earth’s atmosphere

Stratosphere is the layer where we can find the ozone layer

together with nitrogen and oxygen.

Troposphere is the layer next to the surface of

Earth. It is heated by the Earth’s surface.
How Global Warming and Climate Change affects us?

Depletion of Ozone Layer

The ozone layer protects the living things from direct expo-
sure to sun’s radiation. It helps us to prevent diseases such as
skin cancer and or genetic mutations. But as years passed, it can
be observed that the ozone layer is continually depleting because
of certain gases that accumulate in the atmosphere.

Smog
Because of the incessant rise of factories, increasing num-
ber of automobile users and use of refrigerants, the quality
of air is getting lower and lower. This is very evident in
most of the countries experiencing fog of smoke, or simply
called as SMOG. It is very dangerous to human’s health
particularly to the human’s respiratory system.

Acid Rain
This phenomena can damage some of the stone sculptures,
agricultural sectors and vegetations. Acid rain can decrease
crops yield and is also dangerous to human health.
