Film Analysis

 “PITAKA” by Chris Cahilig

"Pitaka" is one of the award winning short film directed by Chris Cahilig. Many Filipinos
touched their hearts by its story because it depicts a hard-working older brother who will do
anything, just to see his brother become successful someday. Even though he sacrifice his own
life, time and happiness for the future of his beloved younger brother. In return his younger
brother returns all the efforts of his older brother by giving what he deserves as a tribute for him
as well and byl giving him a brand-new wallet. His older wallet is the witness of his hardship and
difficulties until he provides the necessary needs for his younger brother to achieve his dream.

The actor who portrays “kuya” is very talented and skilled since he easily narrates the true
definition of a bread winner on the family. The expression from his face as well as his body
language in the film prove that he embraced his role to the story. The actor who portrays as a
younger brother easily slayed his role since, he properly narrates the story by making his emotion
influenced the audience. By doing that action he easily makes the audience feel the true meaning
of the film. Making this short film is not possible if there is no director who can lead the whole
production to success.

We Filipinos is a family-oriented people and by watching this kind of film makes our
hearts melts because of the emotion that it can give to us as well as the lesson that we can
learned. Our parents are like the actor who portrays kuya, all they want for us is to make our
dreams come true. Even though it will cost their blood, sweat and tears. Just like in the film we
should pay our parents or even the elders who make our future better. We should make them feel
the happiness that we get from them and make them enjoy the life that we will make for them.
 “AN OPEN DOOR” by Paul Soriano

“An Open Door” is directed by one of the most talented award-winning director Paul
Soriano. It is all about a person who will cheerfully assist another individual, even if they do not
know each other well. People who are always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need.
In this film there is a grandma that looks like waiting out of nowhere and there is a family that
are stranded because of the suddenly storm. The grandma didn’t hesitant to open her restaurant
for them even though she didn’t know them. She makes a delicious meal for them and now we
figure out the true story behind the generosity of grandma.

The short film “An Open Door” is based on the event where former Pres. Manuel
L.Quezon signed “Open Door Policy” that will aid the Jewish and refugees to rescue them from
the Holocaust and will help them make a shelter in the Philippines. Former Pres. Quezon didn’t
fear the consequence that might happen. Similarly, to former Pres. Quezon, Grandma didn’t
hesitant to help others even though it might cost her life.

This film makes me understand the saying “No man is an island” where it means a person
requires the company and support of others and society as a whole in order to thrive. We need to
help the people who in need no matter what their status can be. Every people have limit and we
didn’t know when it will happen. Grandma help the family even though she is very old. No
matter what happen in the past grandma didn’t forget it even in the future. This good conduct
leads us on what we are now. Every one of us should remember that.
 “COOKING MO, COOKING KO” by Nestle Philippines

In this short film it is all about the competition of two different families. Before that
happen the two families Montano and Capule have strong bond together it is looks like a family
that are build with toughest foundation. Unfortunately, the two families encountered
misunderstanding that lead to the separation of both families. Both of them have different
uniqueness in terms on their hobbies but similar on their personalities. The two families restart a
new life when they birth their precious child. Julius is from the family of Capule while Romina is
from Montano family. Now this will lead to the first chapter of their life. Both of them started a
business of carenderia different family different menu. Both of them have their insecurities to
each other based on their secret ingredients. It is full of competition. But the day has come and
both of their precious child become couple. The two families are vey devastated to find out
because no one wants to be connected to each other.

Two families with a lack of understanding leads to competitiveness, but it also creates a
method for them to find aid inside each other. Since both of them loved their child they both
support their decision. Every person has their own flaws and insecurities, but how they deal with
them is up to them. Both of the families uses their insecurities as a bonding tool in order to make
the stronger connection to each other. And this is the reason why they birth the business
“Cooking Mo, Cooking Ko. Now their family build strongest foundation and it might be
unbreakable.

Every people have different insecurities, it will cause hatred but it also might become a
tool to strengthen the bond. If all of us have a mindset of maturity and understanding all of us
will have a happy and joyful life. Mostly of us uses their insecurities to one another to spread
hatred. We should change our mindset be mature in order to feel the peace and happiness.
