C. How to prepare
foods and drinking
water hygienically to
prevent oneself from
diarrhea:
● Drink and
use safe
water.
● Wash your
hands often.
● Do not
defecate in
any body of
water.
● Eat safe food.
Boil it, cook
it, peel it, or
throw it
away.
● Clean up
safely.

B. Steps in making
homemade solution
substitute to
ORESOL:
1. Pour 1 liter of
water in a deep
non-stick pan and
bring to boil. The
water helps to
restore the water
balance in the body.
Boiling is necessary
to make it germ free.
2. Cover with a lid
and keep aside to
cool for 30 minutes.
3. Add ½ tsp of salt.
This will help to
replenish the lost
sodium during
diarrhea and
maintain electrolyte
balance.
4. Add tsp of sugar
to it. sugar is added
as it is known to
improve the
absorption of
electrolytes and it
also serves as a
source of energy to
help prevent
ketoacidosis.
5. Mix it very well
using a spoon till the
sugar dissolves.
METHOD:
1. For an oral
rehydration solution
recipe at home, boil
the water in a deep
non-stick and keep
aside to cool for 30
minutes.
2. Once cooled, add
the salt and sugar
and mix well till the
sugar dissolves.
3. Keep sipping salt
and sugar drinks for
diarrhea on it
through the day.

B. Actions to take
when you or your
family are ill with
diarrhea:
● If you have
oral
rehydration
solution
(ORS),
immediately
start taking it
to prevent
further
infection
● Go
immediately
to the nearest
clinic or
hospital
● Continue to
breastfeed
your baby if
they have
watery
diarrhea,
even when
travelling to
get treatment
C. Signs and
symptoms of
diarrhea in the early
stages that you
should watch out for
to determine when to
see a doctor:
● Stomach
cramps and
pain
● Watery
stools.
● Loss of
control of
bowel
movement.
● Nausea,
vomiting or
both.
