Fuel Injection pump (FIP) installation 
In this chapter we will demonstrate how to install different types 
of fuel pumps, to be specific I will explain the installation method 
of Fuel injection pump (FIP), Pressure Time (PT) pump that used 
by  Cummins  and  gear  pump  that  used  by  electronic  engines 
(Power Tec) engines. 
 
For  all of  the  above  fuel  systems,  you  should  do  engine  timing 
correctly,  Engine  timing  is  to  match  and  align  marks  on 
Crankshaft  gear  and  Camshaft  gear  together  and  include  idler 
gear timing marks if the timing gears include idler gear.

Fuel Injection Pump (FIP) Installation: 
To  work  correctly,  you  should  ensure  that  you  install  the  pump  in 
accordance  to  manufacture’s  recommendations  considering  that 
incorrect  injection  timing  will  result  in  undesired  white  smoke,  black 
smoke, loss of power and hard starting. 
Normally you can find timing installation degree written on engine name 
plate, in many engines it is 19 degrees BTC. 
To install fuel injection pump (FIP), do the following: 
1. Put piston number one in compression stroke, that is to say  Intake and 
Exhaust  valves  are  closed),  by  aligning  pointer  and  the  mark  on 
crankshaft damper, this is to confirm that Piston number one is at TDC, 
and slightly rotate the crankshaft to match the recommended timing 
degrees BTD . 
 

 
 
2. Fuel pump should be prepared to be in the position that it is ready to 
pump the fuel to injector number one.  
3. Mount FIP to the engine. 
4. Retard or advance as recommended and required. 
5. Install pipes and connections. 
6. Fill fuel filters with clean fuel.

7. Bleed air. 
8. Start engine and check exhaust color and make sure that there is no 
fuel leak.

Installation of PT Cummins pump 
This  pump  is  so  easy  to  install  as  no  timing  required,  you  need  just  to 
mount the PT pump to the engine, and the pump will bleed the air by 
itself.

Installation of gear pump to power Tec engine 
Gear pump does not need any timing, but just you need to align marks 
on the air compressor gear, all what you need is to mount the gear pump 
to air compressor.
