INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Choose one of the following philosophers:

 Jean Jacques Rousseau
 John Locke
 Montesquieu
 Voltaire
 Thomas Hobbes
 Laozi
 Amartya Sen

2. Research on your chosen philosopher’s famous arguments.

Among his arguments are the classification of governments as republics, monarchies, or

despotisms; the theory of the SEPARATION OF POWERS; and the political influence of
climate.
Montesquieu argues that the executive, legislative, and judicial functions of government
(the so-called tripartite system) should be assigned to different bodies, so that attempts
by one branch of government to infringe on political liberty might be restrained by the
other branches (checks and balances).

3. Compose a 300 – word minimum comparative essay comparing your own

personal experiences in life, as well as how they can apply one of their
philosophical arguments to improve your life.

A philosopher or the one who seeks wisdom or enlightenment have a greater value of
contribution to human perspective in life. Among the notable philosophers that we have is
MONTESQUIEU he has a lot of contribution and arguments that made people perspective
follow. Some of it is the theory saying that the power must be separated into government.
Separation of powers, therefore, refers to the division of government responsibilities into distinct
branches to limit any one branch from exercising the core functions of another. The intent is to
prevent the concentration of power and provide for checks and balances. In this saying I have
no arguments that it must not be separated because for me it is the right thing to do to limit the
power to any branches to avoid chaos and overlapping of powers among branches. Let say or
put this argument into experiences in life, our parents have their different powers inside a home.
A father must be the general ruler inside the house but to check and balances the decision our
mother contradict the decisions of our father in some cases. Even in an organization there are
separation of powers, including a head, the director, the manager, the staff, the employee up to
lower point which is the utility. They possess separation of powers to control their duties and
responsibilities as to function in their role in their workplace. These political arguments improve
my life by following the perspective of keeping my role, my position into doing something out of
my mandate. Whatever my role is that is the only play I posses and nothing more except the list
on my mandate. My mandate as a student is to do my job and task in school and finished it in
accordance with the deadlines. I am not overlapping the power of my teachers, professors, even
my co classmates to avoid chaos.
