8. Course brief description:
The content of this unit presents in-depth theories of the financial decisions, theories
and techniques of managing capital resources to maximize shareholder wealth in
public corporation, organization, and investors. Upon a completion of this course,
students are expected to have advanced understanding of the concepts and techniques
of financial management in the modern public corporations which has not been
discussed in Corporate Finance course but is very practical in reality and crucial in
doing comtemporary research. The unit presents the MM theory with bankcruptcy
cost, agency problem, asymmetry information and the limit to the use of debt; efficient
market and behavioral finance; long-term financing and raising capital; options,
futures, and corporate finance. Besides, this course presents factors related to financial
distress which should destroy the firm value. Finally, this unit also provide advanced
knowledge on comtemporary issues in finance practically or academically, but
remained undocumented or problematic to many Vietnamese firms recenttly.

Upon a completion of the course, students should:

factors which infuence bond yield.
- CLO 1.2 Be able to apply valuation models of financial assets and enterprise.
- CLO 1.3 Be able to compute return and risk of stocks and porfolio.
- CLO 1.4 Describe how diversification can reduce porfolio’s risk.
- CLO 1.5 Exlpain the relationship between return and risk in the well –
diversified porfolio.
- CLO 1.6 Understand and explain forms of efficient market and the challenge of
behavioral finance.
- CLO 1.7 Summerize theories involving capital structure decision, analyze
reality factors which affect financing leverage of a company by reading
published acadamic research papers.
- CLO 1.8 Evaluate the appropriate methods of capital raising in financial
markets.
- CLO 1.9 Describe the choices of a company when facing with financial
distress.
- CLO 1.10 Differentiate vatious forms of options, trading strategies based on
options, and apply it in reality.
- CLO 1.11 Compare warrants, rights, and convertible bonds.

12. Student workload:
- Attend all sessions required for the unit.
- Well prepare before class.
- Get all of the homework assignments done, including online quizzes.
- Prepare for the presentation and submit the work before the presentation session.
(details are provided in the next section)
- Class participation is much encouraged and strongly recommended (bonus points
are awarded and counted for assessment#1).
- Sit for the final examination (details are provided below).
13. Student assessment system:
- Class attendance and participation: 10%
Based on the university policies, class attendances are mandatory. Arriving class
later than 15 minutes is not acceptable.
For assessment #1, class attendance check will be implemented in 03 random
sessions. If you have three presences (or zero misses) out of the three random
rolls, you got a mark of eight. For one additional miss from that level, your mark
of eight will be deducted by one. Roll will be taken before class or at the end of
class. During the class lecture or discussion, bonus points are awarded and
calculated for your overall achievement of assessment #1 (on scale of 10)
No private conversation and no electronics devices, including cell phones, are
allowed during the class time. The use of tablets and laptops for the purpose of
note taking must be approved by the lecturer.

After each session, there are online quizzes posted on LMS, (including chapter
15). Each quizzes consit of 30 MPQs including conception and calculation
questions.

- Mid-term exam: 25%


The midterm consists of two parts: part A with 10 MPQs and part B with 01
calculation problem. This is a closed book exam in 40 minutes.
- Final examination: 50%
Closed-book exam in 75-90 minutes. The exam covers all chapters (including
chapter 14 and 30 for self-study), consisting 25-30 multiple choice questions.

At the student’s request, appointment or discussion can be done in-person, on
LMS, or via email.
