CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF PETROCHEMICALS ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY (CIPET)

School for Advanced Research in Petrochemicals (SARP) – APDDRL, BENGALURU-562149

Invites Application for Vritika Research Internship (Training and Skill Internship) Scheme-2021
Title: Development of Non-Platinum-Based Oxygen Reduction Catalysts for Microbial Fuel Cells
Duration: June 1st to July 26th 2022 Venue: CIPET: SARP-APDDRL, Bengaluru
CIPET: SARP-APDDRL, Bengaluru: School for Advanced Research in Petrochemicals (SARP) – Advanced Polymer Design and Development Research
Laboratory (APDDRL) is an R&D wing of CIPET devoted to cater to the various research needs of industries, and would provide a great opportunity to the
industries and academia to use the advanced facilities. The major objectives of CIPET: SARP – APDDRL are to carryout Research & Development activities in
the areas of polymeric materials, testing and evaluation, product development and commercialization, along with facilitating Research Scholars and Scientists to
pursue Research programmes. The R&D Centre has a full-fledged materials characterization facility with broad specialization in product development and
simulation. The centre coordinates and provides centralized support and service to various academia and industries for their research requirements.

SCOPE OF THE VRITIKA INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME: VRITIKA is the call for initiation and practice in science through research internships.
This programme aims to provide opportunities to promising PG students from universities and colleges to get exposure and hands-on research experience. The
scheme is meant to support regular PG level students who are having a strong orientation and potential towards scientific and engineering research and pursuing
their degree from University/ Institution within India, but do not have requisite infrastructure or expertise in their institutions to get such exposure and
motivation. This Internship programme also offers the Postgraduate students a chance to interact with Scientists of CIPET: SARP – APDDRL, Bengaluru, for
their future research endeavours.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE: This event aims at training, in terms of research, of the selected interns in the development of non-platinum-based oxygen
reduction catalysts for microbial fuel cells. The primary objective of this research will be to find a suitable cathode catalyst that can serve as an alternative to the
commercially available Pt and Pt-based catalysts. This is important because Pt is a very costly metal that contributes significantly to the overall cost of microbial
fuel cells. Also, Pt is prone to poisoning. Therefore, an alternative low-cost catalyst that can resist poisoning and deactivation, as well as exhibit performance
efficiencies close to that of Pt, is highly required in order to make microbial fuel cells commercially viable. In the process, the interns will get hands-on training
in the operation of highly important and sophisticated instruments. In addition, the interns will be able to develop a thorough understanding of working in the
field of catalysts for fuel cells. Moreover, getting the opportunity to work in a world-class laboratory setting here at CIPET: SARP – APDDRL, Bengaluru, will
undoubtedly motivate the interns in developing interest towards research and development, particularly in the area of alternative, renewable and sustainable
energy.
INTERNSHIP DETAILS: The duration of this Internship will be for 8 weeks (June 1st – July 26th 2022). A certificate regarding successful completion of
internship (upon submission of work report) shall be issued to the participants by the CIPET: SARP – APDDRL, Bengaluru. Participants not completing the
internship in the requisite period will not be issued any certificate.
ELIGIBILITY: Students currently enrolled in PG courses in Science and Engineering Streams (preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering / Technology,
Polymer Science / Engineering / Technology, and Materials Science / Engineering) in any recognized University / Institute / College in India.
HOW TO APPLY:
 Interested students can apply for the Vritika Internship through Event Organizers (EOs) only.

(vi) Statement of research interest
 E-mail the scanned copy of the documents listed above to the event organizer at dr.kingshukdutta@gmail.com on or before 10th May 2022.
NATURE OF SUPPORT: Necessary expenses such as, stationery, consumables, accommodation, food, etc. for the participating students will be borne by
the CIPET: SARP – APDDRL, Bengaluru through SERB funding support for the whole workshop period (pro-rata basis). The interns will also be eligible for
TA reimbursement for their journey to the host institute from their hometown/home institute, both ways, as per GOI norms.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: The selection of the eligible students for the INTERNSHIP will be done based on the recommendations of the Selection
Committee constituted for this purpose by CIPET: SARP – APDDRL, Bengaluru.
TERMS AND CONDITION:
 The interns would be assigned tasks /assignment as per the designed research programme by the supervisor/event organiser
 The selected interns should work accordingly and submit work report to the supervisor/event organiser after successful competition of the
internship, failing which no certificate will be issued
 The IP rights of the research work shall be reserved by the institute, which cannot be used by the intern without prior permission from the
supervisor
