I INTRODUCTION

The purpose of a logic probe is to examine the logic states at a particular point in an
electronic circuit. It is usually used in fault finding and testing, but it can also be used to find out
how a piece of electronic equipment works or to assist in electronic design.

The logic level should only be low (at or very close to the ground) or high (at or very close
to the positive supply).

II OBJECTIVE
This experiment requires you to design and build a logic probe on any simulation software
(Multisim, etc.) and evaluate the response based on the simulation. After evaluating the response
using the simulation, construct the actual logic probe device and evaluate the probe in a real-world
scenario. Make a 2-minute video of simulation response, actual construction, and testing. This
laboratory must be done in 10 days.

Scope
To meet the experiment requirements, the following must be considered:
• Form a work team of 4 members and organize the necessary task that you will need to
perform to complete this experiment based on the specifications.
• Collectively assess and make an appropriate design for the required operation.
• Create and implement the experiment using Multisim software and apply the necessary signal
on the input probe.
• Construct the logic probe inside the enclosure.
• Evaluate the actual or real-world response of the logic probe and analyze the output based
on the specifications.
• Present your working experiment through your 2-minute video presentation (show face when
making a video).

1. Set up the experiment as shown in fig. 1 on the digital trainer.
2. Refer to fig. 2a. for pin configuration of the two transistors. The collector terminal of
Q1(NPN transistor) is connected to the supply while the collector terminal of Q2 (PNP
transistor) is connected to the ground. Refer to fig. 2b for the LED terminal.

4. Connect the alligator clip to the supply terminal. Make sure that the circuits are
properly connected.
5. Upon testing, tap the tip of the logic probe on the positive terminal and observe the
response. Then tap the tip on the negative (ground) terminal and observe the result.
6. Tabulate the response in the result section.
