Sheet 1: Projection of points & lines I

Instructions:
• Practice all problems in rough before coming to the Drawing Session.
• Solutions are to be drawn using simple instruments on A4 sized sheets as instructed
during the lecture.
• You can refer to the text book (N. D. Bhatt, Engineering Drawing, 50th Edition) for
relevant material to help you solve these problems.
• Clearly and neatly write your name and roll number on the sheet.
• The geometrical construction lines should be light as compared to the main figure lines.
• Scale and dimension the drawings suitably. Label the important nodes/points on the
drawings. Mention the scale next to the drawing if it is not 1:1 (Just write SCALE 1:2 etc.
for reducing scale and SCALE 2:1 etc. for enlarging scale).
• This sheet will be graded. You will be given marks based on the correctness, neatness,
labelling etc. of your submitted work showing your understanding of the concepts. These
marks will count towards your final course grade.
• If the completed sheet is not submitted within the lab session time, it will result in zero
marks being allotted to that lab session.

1. Draw the orthographic projections of the following points:

a) Point P is 30 mm. above H.P and 40 mm. in front of VP (also draw left side view)
b) Point R is 32 mm. below H.P and 45 mm behind VP (also draw left side view)
c) Point T is in H.P and 30 mm behind VP
d) Point U is in V.P and 40 mm. below HP

2. A 60 mm long line AB has its end A at a distance of 20 mm above the H.P. The line is perpendicular to the H.P
and 40mm in front of V.P, draw the projections of the line.

3. An 80 mm long line AB has the end A at a distance of 20mm above HP and 40 mm in front of V.P. The line is
inclined at 30° to H.P and parallel to V.P, draw the projections of the line. Draw a left side view of this line.

4. A line AB 60 mm long is situated in H.P and inclined to V.P at 30°. The end A is 20 mm in front of V.P, draw
the projections of line.

5. The top view of a 75 mm long line AB measures 65 mm, while its front view measures 50 mm. It’s one end A
is in HP and 12 mm in front of VP. Draw the projections of AB and determine its inclination with HP and VP.

6. A line AB, 65 mm long has its end A 20 mm above H.P. and 25 mm in front of VP. The end B is 40 mm above
H.P. and 65 mm in front of V.P. Draw the projections of AB and shows its inclination with H.P. Draw a left side
view of this line.

7. A line AB, 90 mm long, is inclined at 45° to the H.P. and its top view makes an angle of 60° with the V.P. The
end A is in the H.P. and 12 mm in front of V.P. Draw its front view and finds its true inclination with the V.P.
