CE 111: Engineering Drawing

Tutorial 4

Maximum Marks: 40
Instructions for Students

 Read the questions carefully before answering

 Drawing should be only on one side of the page.
 All students should bring their own drawing equipment and drawing book/sheet.
 Numbers in the parenthesis at the end of each question indicate Maximum Marks.
 All dimensions are in mm. (unless specified otherwise)
 Thick continuous lines should demark the solution to each question

Draw the borderlines as per the specification given in the theory class. Use the correct type of pencil
judiciously. Draw the title box as explained in the theory class on the first tutorial sheet as per the
dimensions stated. Write all the relevant information (name, roll number, date etc.) in the title box
using the correct type of pencil. All the other supplementary sheets should have border lines.

Questions

1. Write a detailed note on orthographic projection. Explain the difference between the first-angle
projection system and the third-angle projection system. Why are second-angle and fourth-angle
projections not preferred? Answer this question in a separate sheet provided in the tutorial class. (10)

2. Draw the projections of the following points on the same xy line keeping the projectors 25 mm apart.
Use a proper naming convention for the projections in the plan and the elevation. (12)
a. A, in the HP and 20 mm behind the VP
b. B, 40 mm above the HP and 25 mm in front of the VP
c. C, in the VP and 40 mm above the HP
d. D, 25 mm below the HP and 25 mm behind the VP
e. E, 15 mm above the HP and 50 mm behind VP
f. F, 40 mm below the HP and 25 mm in front of the VP

3. Two points A and B are in the HP. Point A is 30 mm in front of the VP, while B is behind the VP.
The distance between their projectors is 75 mm, and the line joining their top views makes an angle
of 45º with the xy. Find the distance of point B from the VP. (8)

4. By method of circles draw a pentagon of side 35 mm such that one side of the pentagon is vertically
aligned. (10)
